Public Access Technician (Payphone Division)

West Area Operations Manager: James Marchino (retired) phone 310-***-****

email ****@*******.***

I transferred from an Operator position in Southern California, to a field technician position in rural Nevada. This was a physically demanding job, and I endured harsh weather. I trained in areas of telephony, ladder skills, and sales. My new skills included problem solving techniques and the use of hand tools. I worked in phone rooms, ran cable, and installed all types of pay stations. Safety is important on any job, but the dangers were more prevalent in my new position. Adapting to a completely different environment has had it's challenges. I prevailed and became assimilated soon after. As a group, our division had a profit margin, unheard of, for a payphone company. Unfortunately our area quickly sold to PTS. I then retired.

Telephone Operator and *Relief Supervisor 4/79 to 4/98

Employer: GTE Operator Services, HQ Thousand Oaks, CA (pre Verizon, California) Office locations in CA: Perris, *Hemet, Palm Springs, Huntington Beach and *Ontario.

Salary started at $4.12 hourly in 1979. *A differential of $.50 hourly was added for relief supervision pay.

My experience is in call centers with various work stations, (including cord board, PBX, TSPS, and OSPS.) We provided directory, mobile, emergency, billing, and international assistance. We took emergency calls before 911 commenced. During this period of 19 years, I worked as a relief supervisor for 8 years of that time. I kept online objectives current, scheduled staff, and handled critical customers. I assisted in the training of personnel, and was also involved in focus groups. Ethics and diversity played an important role within our company.
