Integral Coach Factory

June 2008 to November 2008

Junior Engineer - Manufacturing Division

. Studied and gained in-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes and

shop floor management for railway coaches and their components.

. Benchmarked and conducted feasibility study on alternative

manufacturing technologies.

. Created models and drawings of the parts using CATIA.

. Helped the engineering team in making the process sheets for the parts

and QC for finished products.

. Analyzed the models using ANSYS.

Education:

Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering, 2011

University of New Haven, Connecticut.

Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical, 2008

Anna University,

Tamil Nadu

Academic Projects:

University of New Haven:

Finite element analysis Rappelling Attachment lug part for installation to

an air craft:

. An object-Rappelling Attachment lug was modeled using Solid works. The

same part was analyzed using ANSYS 11.0. The analysis was done for the

optimization of weight of the part.

. A 200lb man at a 3g load factor, at any in-plane angle was considered

and the factory of safety was 1.5. Three iterations of analysis were

performed and different meshing techniques were used.

Composite materials literature survey:

. Studied and documented the mechanical property characterizations

including bending, tensile and fracture properties for new

functionalized aluminum fiber/epoxy composite.

. The main objective of this study was to improve collision safety and

reduce environmental pollution.

. Discussed various methods in implementing the composite materials in

the automobile parts and their implementation results.

Design and Analysis of shell and tube heat exchanger:

. Studied and designed the heat exchangers. The desired problems

involving these exchangers were solved using both ?-NTU and LMTD

methods.

. For this research in each degree increase in the temperature

difference there was an approximate 0.6m increase in length.

. It was also observed that the increase in mass flow rate there should

be an increase in the length of the heat exchanger. The observations

and results were discussed.

Thermoelectric Generators - energy efficient solutions:

. Tested efficiency and ideal working conditions of Thermoelectric

Generator (Model no. G1-1.0-127-1.27).

. Varied heating temperatures to find out the efficiency of the

Thermoelectric Generators.

. Ideal working temperatures were found. Output voltage measured and

compared with theoretical voltage.

Anna University:

Design and fabrication of fatigue testing equipment:

. Testing machine was designed to find out fatigue strength of any

material.

. Analyzed Glass fiber reinforced plastic for its fatigue strength and

survival under cyclic loading conditions. By the testing machine that

was designed, an axial load was applied to GFRP strip. This way the

fatigue testing was done.

Plotted S-N curve and compared the experimental findings with the

ANSYS results.

Prediction and Optimization of surface finish for machining Titanium:

. The material was checked for its composition using Optical emission

spectroscopy.

. Titanium alloy was machined using DMTG CDL 6236 Gear lathe with RCMT

10T300 - MT TT3500 round inserts in dry machining conditions.

. The experiments were designed using Taguchi's orthogonal array

principal.

. A mathematical model was developed using Regression analysis.

. Grey relational analysis was performed for optimization.

. Project presented at IIT Madras, Chennai.

Co-curricular Activities

. Member of ASHRAE

. Member of SAE, India

. Member of IEEE

Hobbies

. Sports Activities such as Badminton, Cricket (Team winning Award),

zumba dance, and swimming.

. Adventure sports and Travelling.
