OBJECTIVE

6) SOMIKA SPRL - D R CONGO
(Asst. General Manager- Pyro & Hydro Production - till date)
Somika SPRL has a Hydro metallurgy unit for production of Copper and
Cobalt and a Pyro metallurgy unit for production of copper. Pyro
metallurgy Unit owns Electric arc furnaces for production of Black
copper ingots using Malachite as Raw material.
. Have been promoted to post of AGM in April 2013. Expands area of
responsibility to Hydrometallurgy Unit which produces copper cathode
sheets thru electrowinning and cobalt hydroxide by CCD process. Pyro
Unit involves Electric Arc furnaces to produce blister copper ingots.
Have completed following Projects:
a. Arc furnace III - Erection and Commissioning
b. Raw Material Handling System - Erection and Commissioning
c. Raw Material Shed - Civil construction & Shed erection.
. Tin Smelter Project -Heading a Tin Smelter Project (Includes Erection /
Commissioning of Smelter and Laboratory) that is under erection stage
within Somika SPRL premises. The Smelter is a joint venture of MMR
(Mining Mineral Resources-D R Congo) and MSC (Malaysian Smelting
Corporation- Malaysia). It includes two electric furnaces for producing
Tin and Hardhead. The project responsibility includes civil construction
of the smelter, laboratory construction with furniture, designs and
order of furniture, and mechanical erection of the Smelter equipment.
Have also provided valuable inputs to revise the metal pouring systems
and hardhead granulation systems with in-house engineering as well as
designing of a hood over the Tin smelting furnace. The project execution
also includes ordering of suitable equipment for operation; follow up of
activities, equipment order tracking to adhere to the project schedule.
Visited MSC - Malaysia in month of November'12 for having an overview of
the Tin smelting and Refining at the group company. The Smelter Project
is completed in March'13.
5) OMAN MINING COMPANY LLC-SULTANATE OF OMAN
(PLANT METALLURGIST June'08 - May'12)
Oman Mining Company LLC is a Copper Smelting unit with concentrate
treatment capacity of 80,000 TPA. LME Grade 'A' Cathodes are produced as
final product from Refinery.
. Planning monthly production and achieving the set targets Preparation of
production budget, material budget and capital budget. Also preparing
metal balance, environment reports, statistical reports and monthly
reports.
. Condition monitoring - furnace health monitored by shell temperature
measurement and physical inspection of furnaces through inspection
windows during shutdowns,
. Furnace refractory management that includes Electric furnace, P S
Converter and Anode furnace. Modifications in brick designs in line with
brick supplier for improving refractory life. Shutdown planning,
coordination and execution, in depth analysis of furnace linings through
various monitoring methods.
. Improvements in areas of operation by suggestions and successful
implementation of modifications that has given proven results in
increased equipment availability as well as reduction in breakdowns. For
e g. i) Concentrate feed hopper stationary screen was sketch designed
and given to engineering for a vibrating screen. ii) Concentrate storage
bins were provided with cleaning manholes for easy approach and clearing
of any concentrate hang ups.
. Calibration of measuring equipment including weighing bridge through
Ministry of Commerce
and Industry, Environment monitoring around the Smelter Unit.
. The company has been awarded ISO 9001 QMS certification in year 2009 and
have successfully shouldered responsibility for the Smelter department.
Have faced internal and external ISO audits as an auditee.
. Coordination and discussions with engineering contractors for Electric
furnace major repairs, providing technical scope of work to the
contractors, including mechanical jobs.
. With all administrative and technical skills, have always been appointed
by management to fill up leave vacancy of Smelter Superintendent and
have successfully shouldered responsibilities of HOD.
. One of the valuable involvement was in shutdown of Electric furnace
after a campaign of 12 years and replacing 300 tons of refractories.
Responsibilities shouldered include preparing scope of work for
refractory demolition and rebuild, studying of furnace refractory
drawing, supervision of refractory demolition and installation and
engineering scope of work with improvements and modifications. Total
technical supervision and tracking of the shutdown.
4) RUBAMIN SPRL -- D R CONGO - AFRICA
(MANAGER - OPERATIONS April' 2007 -- May' 2008)
Rubamin SPRL (Congo) is a Unit of Rubamin Limited (INDIA) producing
Copper from Oxide Ore from Electric furnace.
. Worked for increase in Copper production that improved by ten percent
and streamlined operation of Electric furnace and Water-Jacketed
furnace.
. Reduced electric furnace downtime and implemented engineering
modifications to improvise production as well as create safer work
practices.
. Reduced electric furnace shutdown time for repair of Tapping blocks by
providing two tapping holes instead of one for alternate operation
during repair of any one of them. This increased plant availability by
avoiding stoppage of complete furnace for repair of one tapping block.
. Manually operated mould trolley was modified to motorized operation to
avoid dependability on manpower.
. Apart from production, engineering job work, material procurement and
contract finalization was carried out in coordination with commercial
department.
. A new Copper and Cobalt project was planned near the operating unit
wherein two electric furnace, one oxygen plant, power station and cobalt
extraction unit set up was in process. With continuing production at the
old unit, activities carried out on the new project included the
following - Erection and commissioning of; Material Handling system, Ore
crushing and screening plant, Slag granulation system, DM Water plant
and Electric furnace erection that included auxiliary facilities like
slag granulation, electrode devices and furnace lining.
. Coordinated purchase of fluxes from local market and government owned
units by personally approaching suppliers.
3) JHAGADIA COPPER LIMITED --GUJARAT - INDIA
(Formerly SWIL Limited)
(DEPUTY MANAGER - PROCESS -- June' 2005 -- April' 2007)
Jhagadia Copper is a Secondary Smelter with rated capacity of 50,000 TPA
copper cathodes using Copper bearing scrap, residues & reverts as raw
material for production of LME Grade A Copper Cathodes.
. Job responsibilities - Consistent operation of Kaldo furnace, P S
Converter, Anode furnace, Cast wheel, Slag Granulation plant and Gas
Cleaning plant.
. Production planning and achievement of the same, shutdown planning and
coordination of activities including mechanical and refractory repairs,
management of manpower and handling various contractors.
. Revival of Gas cleaning plant including scrubber with Lime feeding
system at the Lime plant and gypsum production as by product. The system
was out of operation previously for many years. Lime consumption was
reduced by effective process control as well as gypsum production
started through drum filters. Dust emissions from Kaldo furnace usually
choked the gas scrubbing systems at the collection tank, provision of
draining of the collection tank at regular intervals, improved
availability and effectiveness of the system.
. Other assignments handled - key role in implementing departmental
activities including documentation, record keeping, preparation of
Smelter manuals, work instructions, training of employees for
implementation and achievement of ISO 9001, 14001 and 18001. Also had a
single point responsibility for Smelter department in handling all the
activities related to British 5 STAR Safety Award from British Safety
Council and was successfully achieved by the company.
2) HINDALCO INDUSTRIES LIMITED -- GUJARAT - INDIA
UNIT: BIRLA COPPER
(DEPUTY MANAGER - PROCESS-- Jan' 1997 -- June' 2005)
Birla Copper - a Custom Smelter Unit with copper producing capacity
of 5,00,000 TPA. Cathodes from Refinery are further treated in CCR plant
producing Wire rods. The Sulphur dioxide as by product is treated to
Produce Sulphuric Acid which in turn is used for production of Di
Ammonium Phosphate in subsequent plant.
. Joined as Graduate Engineer Trainee in 1997. Successful achievements
during and after training. Contributed to high production with technical
and management skills. Reached position of Deputy Manager in year 2004
with an excellent performer rating and subsequent merit promotions.
. Efficient shift operation with minimum breakdowns, effective
implementation of on the job trainings like TPM, WCM, and Six Sigma.
. Appreciation by the Birla Copper Management by nominating me for "BEST
EMPLOYEE FOR CHAIRMAN'S AWARD" amongst all Aditya Birla group companies
for outstanding contribution to the company.

Bhagwati Foundries Ltd, a subsidiary of Chicago Pneumatic was largely
into production of Spheroid Graphite Iron (SGI), Cast Iron (CI), Steel
and Stainless Steel castings.
. First company joined after graduation where training period (six months)
was successfully completed for learning various processes in all
departments and subsequently worked as Melting Officer in Melting and
Pouring Section.
. Initiated systematic operation cycles with sand mould casting sequences.
. Appointed as an ISO auditee for Melting section during certification
process.
