• Medical Translator Volunteer: Jan 2012-Present; Houston, Tx
-San Jose is a non-profit clinic that helps people that show financial need. My responsibilities
included translating for the Spanish-speaking patients and the English-speaking doctors. So far, I have
collected over 100 volunteer hours.
• Research Assistant: May 2011- Present
Lab Research Work in a Metagenomics project with Dr. Maia Larios-Sanz at the University of St.
-Thomas Biology Department
-Responsibilities included performing laboratory techniques, such as DNA isolation, gel
electrophoresis, PCR reactions, microbiology work and cell cultures as well as maintaining thorough
notes of our work and follow various protocols in order to ultimately sequence bacteriophage DNA from
different soil samples around the Houston area.
• Hispanic Serving Institute STEM Grant Program Lab Assistant: March 2012- September
2012 and March 2013-Present
-Lab research work in the viral metagenomics and mosquito project affiliated with HSI and
Houston Community College. Responsibilities included teaching students from Houston Community
College to perform simple laboratory aseptic techniques, while advancing on the research projects.
• Methodist Hospital Volunteer: Jan 2012- May 2012
-I was stationed in the pathology laboratory department of the hospital. My responsibilities
included organizing and preparing microscope slides for later examination, aid pathologist assistants as
they performed gross examinations, occasionally organize paperwork.
• AllPrint: May 2010-August 2010; May 2011-August 2011; June 2012-August 2012
-Summer job at my father’s print shop. My responsibilities included attending clients and giving
them price quotes, answering phones, delivery, some graphic design, and packaging.
Skills
• Bilingual in English and Spanish, including most medical terminology
• Experience on translating for doctors and patients in a medical setting
• Knowledgeable and experienced in basic to advanced biological and chemical laboratory
workplaces. Experience in cell biology, molecular biology, genetics, microbiology, and organic
chemistry labs and coursework.
