Master of Science in Mechanical engineering,Aug 2011 - May 2013

University of Florida, Gainesville, FL

GPA: 3.43/4

Bachelors in engineering (Mechanical)

Anna University, Chennai, India, Aug 2004 –May 2008,

Percentage scored-78% (first class with distinction)

Graduate-Course works (relevant to position): Failures of materials in Mechanical design, Finite element analysis, Structural

Composites, Advanced Finite element methods, Inelastic materials, Principles of fracture mechanics, Experimental mechanics,

Applied elasticity & advanced mechanics of solids, Fluid mechanics-1,Dynamics (undergraduate)

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: Engineer, Honeywell technology solutions, India (R&D unit-Honeywell Turbo

Technologies), Dec 2008 – Aug 2011 --- supporting (Turbocharger Product and Application engineering teams)

Performed CFD analysis full-stage Centrifugal-Compressors (Aerodynamic efficiency improvement) and calibrating results with

Gas stand data (micro turbo applications-boosting < 1L engines)-proposed new volute designs.

Conjugate heat transfer analysis (CHT) performed to support FEA study performed high temperature two stage turbo design

Performed CFD analysis to support Advance Compressor design concepts (Single Shaft Turbo- inlet flow distortion study;

Ported shroud compressor- supported the research work to develop loss models & Post processed unsteady (FFT) predict Surge.

Provided CFD support and solved design issues (Fouling of hot gas,Thermal Fatigue) in Exhaust Gas Circulation (EGC cooler)

Worked across Global teams for various projects (as a result has developed project management and communication skills).

Exposure to Turbine, Compressor (Aero & mechanical design aspects) and to HCF life- prediction methodology for

VNT (Variable nozzle turbines).

Exposure to various design aspects of turbo-machinery (sealing design, rotor dynamics, Noise, Bearing design).

RESEARCH:

Research work - Implicit Boundary Finite Element formulation --- mesh independent FEM (Software development)

Understood the existing code structure developed in JAVA.

Formulated, coded and tested Mindlin-plate element in IBFEM framework.

Formulated Implicit boundary method to model complex Shell structures (Kirchhoff theory) using 3D-mesh and extending

the same for laminated composites.

Testing and validation conducted using standard benchmark problems.

PROJECTS:

1. Non-linear FEA on engine gasket(elastomer) – using ABAQUS

Experimental data fitting for choosing stable material model -optimized the shape for better sealing capability-Lower bolt loads

at closed position –modified the design for reduce the debris entrapment.

2. Non-linear analysis of Deep Drawing operation (Elasto-plastic material)

Study the effect of blank-holding force on spring back shape of the blank - to study the thickness variations along the

longitudinal direction of the cup – to evaluate the give process ( Die, blank & punch geometries) on the tearing of the cup

3. Developed tool for Strain-Life based estimation for crack initiation (LCF) for notched specimen for given loading cycle

Exposed using Rain-flow counting algorithm and reduced from Load spectrum to stress reversals,

Empirical expression for strain amplitude vs. life and used the same to predict the life using Cumulative damage theory.

4. Transient -Dynamic FEA study for vibration damper (to control chatter) metal cutting tools using ANSYS-structural.

5. Developed a MATLAB code – Progressive failure analysis for laminated composites.

6. Summarized a research paper on “Anisotropic behavior of α -Titanium (high temperature application)”: derived new Yield

functions considering (plastic anisotropy & tension -compression asymmetry) – received an appreciation as a best summary.

SKILLS:

Programming language: C, MATLAB, JAVA.

CAE skills: ANSYS (3 years), HYERMESH, ABAQUS CAE,Mechanical Failure analysis, Linear /Non-linear FEA. CATIA v5

SIX SIGMA CORE GREEN BELT CERTIFICATION.

Awards:

Awarded in appreciation of presenting technical paper in ANSYS Users conference representing my company (Honeywell

technology Solutions, India)

Awarded Spot Awards in appreciation of providing CFD support and innovative solutions for divergence problems( while

working at Honeywell).
