Dear Hiring Manager,
I’m interested in your Purchasing Analyst position. As you consider my letter and resume you'll see that I typically do more than fill a seat. I may even be able to help with problems that you didn't realize could be solved. Please consider:
You want experience. My background…
5 years in Purchasing; 13 years in Material/Production Planning, and 11 years in
Inventory/Warehouse Management.
APICS Certified. (Please see the end of my resume. It’s like a CPA compared to a
bookkeeper. When I obtained it, APICS maintained that their certificate program and 4
years of experience was equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree. I have completed 2 separate BA
equivalency programs and have 28 years of experience. Virtually every position I have held
required a Bachelor’s Degree.)
Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook, Publisher and other
software. Adapt easily to new applications, including “homegrown” and commercial MRP
& ERP systems.
You want someone to take pride in his work. Consider…
My website, www.ProductionInventoryEfficiency.com describes some of my abilities and
is itself a sample of my work.
Former employers described me as “very talented”, “dedicated”, “model employee”, “really
knows his stuff.”
Ability and willingness to tackle some of the most daunting challenges has won both
written & verbal praise from the highest levels in companies such as Boeing Corporation,
Applied Biosystems, Inc. and Amdahl Corporation.
You want someone who constantly strives to improve performance. I…
Constantly seek simplified process improvement opportunities.
Know how to use suppliers’ services to improve operational efficiency.
Know how to reduce costs and improve supplier performance.
Know how to get up to 100% of the value for Excess and Obsolete inventory.
Innovated numerous original techniques for improving efficiency & profitability.
I can produce similar results for you.
I have excellent analytical skills, know how to balance and prioritize multiple demands from varying sources and get along well with virtually everyone.
I’m available to interview immediately and I’m sure that I would be a valuable asset to you and your company.
Thank you very much for your time and courtesy in reviewing my background. I’m looking forward to speaking with you soon.
Sincerely,
Jim Bartmess, CPIM
Purchasing
Have been responsible for all aspects of the material acquisition process including standard and fabricated components, MRO, R&D and tooling. Planned and negotiated Purchase Orders to meet quality and cost targets and provide JIT delivery. Prepared and placed Blanket Orders and Subcontract Orders. Outsourced entire product lines. Made end-of-life purchases and sourced replacements. Maintained up-to-date Purchase Orders, supplier contact information and pricing. Helped develop supplier selection and qualification process and participated in it. Determined Purchasing policies, procedures, safety stock levels and lead times. Lead cross-functional teams, communicated with all levels internally and externally.
Items purchased include Electronic Components; Printed Circuit Boards; Printed Circuit Assemblies; Cable and Wire Harnesses; Mechanical Assemblies; Molded Plastic; Laser Optics; Pneumatic Components; Pneumatic Assemblies; Machined Parts; Sheet-Metal Parts; Raw Sheet-Metal & Metal Stock; Turn-Key Finished Products; Tooling; Televisions; Cameras; Computers; Marketing Services; Building Services; Coffee Services; etc.
Achievements
In an industry entirely new to me, without knowing the software, the product or suppliers, I negotiated $54,000 of savings in my first month.
When a Senior Buyer became incapacitated, I took over the Purchasing function. Without access to any computer files, I rapidly developed a manual system. Although unfamiliar with the product or suppliers, in my first month I saved over $9,000.
In a small company with no part numbers, spec sheets or inventory management tools, I
obtained the components needed to fill a series of customer orders that had been held up due to material shortages.
Coordinated efforts that obtained full value ($2,000,000) for 100% of Excess and Obsolete inventory.
