I have known ISMAYIL GULIYEV 12 plus years through his work on Shah Deniz

field in Azerbaijan as both a Night Lead Engineer and presently as Day Lead

Senior Mud Engineer. Ismayils' knowledge and understanding of mud systems

is exceptional. He has been an integral part of the successful drilling of

wells on Shah Deniz Field. He has worked with some exotic muds e.g. WARP,

Ultradril, Oil Based Muds, Synthetic Based Muds as well as some potentially

hazardous mud/brine systems.

Throughout this time Ismayils' diligence in his duties has ensured that it

has all been managed successfully.

Ismayil has an excellent understanding of all aspects of the mud engineers

role, from ordering and maintaining correct stock levels where space is a

premium to good pit management. Solids control management has been

maintained with and without the use of a centrifuge by Ismail keeping a

watchful eye on his mud system and good shale shaker management.

Communication skills are excellent letting personnel know what is required,

when it is required and how it should be delivered, all in a timely manner.

Understands the limitations of logistics within the Caspian region and how

to get the best out of what is available.

Interaction with all departments on the platform has been conducted

professionally and with understanding. Part of the role of the Mud Engineer

in Shah Deniz Filed has been the mentoring of crews and in particular in

Ismayils' case working with the Fluid Operators (Derrick-men), Shaker hands

and Deck crew.. Ismayil has shared his vast knowledge with the team which

has led to many of the guys that he has worked being promoted into higher

positions.

I would highly recommend Ismayil as a first class mud engineer for any

operation. His easy going demeanour, vast knowledge of mud systems and

flexibility makes him an asset to any operation that he might be involved

in.
