Contracted through MRI Contract Staffing to a 350 employee, unionized, 170 ton per day tissue mill.

Responsibilities were, first, to oversee the safety of a $316M expansion project to build a 140 ton tissue

machine and converting operations. Second, to develop a new safety and health program for the new portion of

the Mill. Third, to implement the new program in the existing (legacy) portion of the Mill.

• Successfully oversaw the safety of the expansion project. The project was completed with a 0.00

incident rate for company personnel and a 0.98 incident rate for construction and other contract personnel.

• Developed a new safety and health program for the Facility. Performed gap analysis. Developed

written safety program describing eleven elements of a world class safety program. Rewrote and upgraded

all Facility safety and health policies/programs/procedures.

• Developed and initiated plan to implement the new safety and health program Facility-wide. The

program is scheduled to be fully implemented by the end of 2013.

• Worked with the Facility Leadership Team to implement a behavioral safety observation program.

• The Facility’s twelve month rolling incident rate has dropped from 3.9 to a current (July 2013) 2.4

rate.

• Developed a new Emergency Response Plan and Crisis Management Plan for the Facility.

• Performed PPE hazard assessment for the Facility.

• Performed Security Program gap analysis and developed new security procedures improving

Facility access security as well as visitor and contractor safety orientations.

• Trained new hires (expanding the workforce to 475 employees) in 30 safety and health subjects.

Also, developed safety training curriculums for all job classifications Facility-wide.

Direct the Safety Department at an 800+ employee, unionized, integrated paper mill which produces 332K tons

per year on five paper machines and 68K tons per year on 2 coating machines. Provide support for logging and

• Served as assistant facility security officer regulated under Department of Homeland Security.

• Developed and executed plan to bring organization into compliance with key regulations including

Protection, Head Protection, Powered Industrial Trucks, PPE, Recordkeeping, etc.

safety of their employees.

• Implemented a Mill Manager's Safety, Environmental, and Housekeeping inspection program. The

inspections not only helped to identify and correct hazardous conditions, but also helped area managers

know what to look for in their areas.

at a 900+ employee, unionized Kraft pulp mill which produced 590 tons per year on three pulp machines.

• Directly supervised 2 safety professionals and three hourly safety advocates.

• Responsible for developing short and long term strategies to reduce occupational injuries and ensure

regulatory compliance.

• In 1998, attained the Mill's best recordable injury incident rate. This achievement was duplicated for six

consecutive years. Ultimately, the incident rate was reduced 43% .

• Implemented a behavior based safety program with the Maintenance craft unions. Later, integrated paper

workers union employees into the program.

• Developed and implemented a Mill-wide safety inspection program where area managers inspected their

area with participation from their employees.

• Implemented an Emergency Response Team training program covering Hazardous Materials Response,

Confined Space and High Angle Rescue, and Medical Emergencies.

• Organized a county-wide emergency drill with participation from the Mill, local hospital, Police

Department, ambulance service, and Sheriff's Department.

• Assisted with corporate safety and health audits of other facilities.

• Responsible for identifying and implementing strategies to reduce injuries. Lowered the recordable injury

incident rate from 4.2 in 1990 to 2.4 in 1993.

and maintenance courses. This was in preparation for ISO-9001 certification.

• Assisted in the development and implementation of a checklist guided company-wide safety and health

auditing and reporting program.

Safety Director, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Managed safety & health, security, emergency response, contractor safety, and fire prevention at a 60+

employee chemical plant producing Polyvinyl Chloride.

• Responsible for managing the plant safety and health programs to ensure regulatory compliance.
