PROFILE
Process and results oriented Mechanical Engineer with 15+ years of experience.
I’m an experienced leader that can drive cross-functional product design and development engineering
groups from concept to manufacture; also have great experience as R&D Engineer designing consumer
electronic products and access control hardware. During my trajectory, I’ve gained experience in the
following fields: 1) Project management, 2) Reliability Engineering, 3) Geometric Dimensioning &
Tolerancing [GD&T], 4) Lean Manufacturing and 5) Problem solving.
EDUCATION
• University of Maryland. 2011 – Expect to graduate Dec. 2013
Master Degree in Reliability Engineering
• Instituto Tecnologico de Monterrey 1997 - 2000
Master Degree in Industrial Engineering.
• Universidad de Guadalajara (U De G) 1990-1995
Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Onity, a United Technologies CCS Company, Duluth GA. 2001-Current – Design, Manufacture
and Commercialization of Electronic Locks and Hotel Safes
Tittle: Sr. Mechanical Engineer & Robust Design Leader 2010–Current
• Robust Design Leader. Perform feasibility analysis, system layout and reliability allocation, PCB
reliability analysis with Telcordia SR-332, DFMEA, risk assessment and mitigation plans, reliability
test plans, root cause analysis and reliability growth to ensure the final product meets the
marketing, quality and reliability requirements.
• Sr. Mechanical Engineer. Mechanical design and development of new products from concept to
implementation, which may include but not limited to the following tasks: program
planning/tracking, conceptual design, concept selection, stress analysis, prototyping, testing &
documentation (BOMs & 2D drawings).
• Continuous Improvement Leader. Coordinate design, implementation and performance monitoring
of engineering processes and standard work.
Tittle: Mechanical & Industrial Engineering Manager 2001-2010:
• Coordinate the mechanical design and development of new products, from review and
assessment of marketing requirements, system layout definition, proof of concept prototype build,
3D modeling, test planning and execution and documentation release (2D drawings and BOMs).
• Design and implementation of production lines, from layout definition, preparation of request for
proposal, evaluation of pros and cons of each proposal, direct collaboration with selected supplier
on the design of detail to final production line start up and release for production.
• During 2004- 2005, transfer manufacturing operations from Mexico to China. This project included
frequent trips to China to assess potential suppliers (in the early stages of this program), to
actively participate on the design of the factory layout and assembly/production lines, to
coordinate transfer of technical information, to do component validation (PPAP), to coordinate
implementation of QC control systems per UTC’s requirements.
• 2006 relocated from Mexico to USA, after manufacturing site was closed.
Urrea Herramientas Profesionales. Guadalajara, México 1999- 2001. Design, Manufacture and
Commercialization of Hand Tools
Tittle: Tool-Shop Manager:
• Supervision of 3 design engineers and 45 tooling technicians.
• Coordinate the design and fabrication schedule of forging and stamping dies.
• Actively participate on the new product design and development process, by providing ideas and
feedback to the design team to improve product manufacturability and yield.
• Plan and execute preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance.
• Preparation and control of the organization’s budget.
• Design and implementation of standard work for tooling fabrication.
Lucent Technologies Guadalajara, Mexico 1995-1999. Design and Manufacture of Answering
Machines Pagers, Corded/Cordless Phones
Tittle: Research and Development Engineer:
• Mechanical design and development of new products from concept to implementation.
• Creation of detailed schedule.
• 3D modeling, stress and tolerance analysis.
• Prepare and execute test plans; including certifications with external test labs.
• Preparation of technical information for manufacturing 2D drawings, AVLs and BOMs.
• Sustaining Engineering was another of my responsibilities at LT.
