Project Highlights:

2013: “Post-Op Cardiac Tamponade Detector” – Observed open heart surgery

and worked with Cleveland Clinic Cardiologists, Anesthesiologists, Perfusionists, and

the Clinical Engineering Department to uncover different needs in the medical

environment. Wrote the design history file, business plan for product development,

and presentation for two professors and 20 students.

2012: “Left Ventricular Assistance Device (LVAD)” – Theoretically designed the

logic control system for the LVAD from a Class IV patient to Class II. Measured heart

beat for input to control cardiac output, systolic aortic pressure, suction, and

regurgitation. Created the design history file for FDA approval.

2011: “Valve Design for Simulation of Pulmonary Vascular Resistance” –

Served as the team leader to improve the adjustable pulmonary valve for The

Cleveland Clinic’s Continuous-Flow Artificial Heart. Redesigned the clamp and valve

system for more accurate representation of humanistic pressure. To date, this design

is successfully in use at the Clinic.

Taught three (3) classes to approximately 100 engineering students on subjects:

Two-Dimensional Plots, Script File Inputs/Outputs, Arrays, Function Files, and

Engineering Programming. Gave personalized, individual attention for proper

Research Student, 2011 2012

The Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, OH

Led the development to test load deformations from a human cadaver knee.

Observed specimen-specific testing. Gained insight on deformation from loads

under the Joint-to-Cell project funded by the National Institute of Health (NIH).

Presented the research conducted by five (5) engineers.

the shop floor. Created a material flow sheet used for plant safety and organization.
