National Institute of Mental Health Career Opportunities in Research
Program Associate
During this eight week intensive program, I was introduced to the
methods of research. As an associate, I received close training in
different areas of research, including statistics, writing,
presentation, and SPSS. During this training, I used quantitative data
in order to formulate a research question concerning urban adolescent
violence in correlation to the amount of violence occurring within
their households. This program also taught how to conduct different
tests on SPSS, such as T-tests, Multiple Linear Regressions and
ANOVAs. At the end of the program, the associates were able to present
their research findings.
September 2008-2010
Research Assistant to Dr. Spencer Baker, Hampton University
The projects I was involved in with entailed investigating Attention
Deficit Disorder in young adults. Currently, we are entering
quantitative data gathered from the administration of the BROWN and
AMEN tests to al incoming freshmen to the University. Soon, we will
begin to analyze this data in which I will research the correlation
between ADD and the neuroticism of young adults.
Research Interest
My research interests focus primarily on higher education. I am
uniquely interested in problems within higher education, including
issues such as college completion rates, funding, and policy that
exist in various types of universities. During my tenure in
undergraduate college, I have conducted research concerning academic
achievement of male college students, and the types of accommodations
that are made for students who may have ADHD.
