A 220 million dollar construction products manufacturer owned jointly by German and US private equity firms.

VICE PRESIDENT, CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

I was brought in to conclude an extended sale process, became a critical component in the senior management team as we refocused the organization and turned the business around and found new buyers for the organization.

Creating Shareholder Value

• A driving force in the management team that turned around the company increasing EBITDA from near zero, to over $ 2 million a month. Rebalancing production from the two manufacturing operations and working on 6 sigma projects to rationalize costs.

• Generated an additional 30% return for the owners and completed the sale process of the North American part of the organization. As well as working as laying ground work for the eventual sale of the Brazil operations.

Changing Corporate Culture

• Re-energized the finance team of this multi site, multi country organization improving timeliness of management information and focusing senior management on the critical issues. Driving changes to systems and procedures to maximize the value of existing resources.

FLEETWOOD FINE FURNITURE LP 2008–2010

Owned by a Canadian Listed private equity organization, the partnership was a contract furniture manufacturer supplying bedroom furniture to the luxury hotel market.

Reporting to the President, I was part of a senior team brought in by the Private Equity group to solidify systems and establish a platform for growth and eventual sale of the investment.

Leadership and Operational Efficiency

• Re-engineered the reporting structure to provide relevant information for effective decision making, rationalized costs and restructured the organization

• Directed banking relationships, negotiated with bank on agreements, performance and cash flow monitoring, ensured business continuity in spite of missing financial covenants

Financial Management and Systems

• Initiated a business planning process and budgeting procedures, resulting in more accountability and a deeper understanding of the deficiencies in the operations and the critical factors for business continuity.

Operational Management

• A key part of the management team, combining the operations of Pinkerton and Burns Canada after they were acquired by Securitas AB and split out of the US organizations, building the accounting team from 2 to 25, providing the parent company with an autonomous subsidiary

• Developed and implemented an enterprise system for the company’s mobile response division and Client Relationship Management application for the guard division, enhancing profitability

Mergers and Acquisitions

• Spearheaded a growth strategy by sourcing acquisitions to expand operations across Canada to meet the objectives of market scale and geographic representation acquiring 8 businesses over a 3 year period

• Divested of two significant non-core business units, splitting out operations and negotiating terms and effectively managing the transition, allowing management to focus its operations on one segment

Risk Management

• Negotiated agreements with Steelworkers and CAW and had extensive involvement in litigation, arbitration and mediation processes, improving profitability and operating efficiency in a complex unionized environment

• Redesigned benefits and pensions and restructured reporting and administration, significantly reducing operating costs

A Canadian publicly listed technology and service provider to financial institutions. During that period, it was one of Canada’s fastest-growing companies.

Financial Reporting

• During a period of management turnover was Interim CFO with responsibilities for investor relations, public company requirements including annual filings, and preparation of the annual report. Presented to the Audit Committee and at the Annual General Meeting

• Designed and implemented management reporting systems to present financial and operational data to senior management, enabling better performance management

Process Improvement

• Implemented time reporting systems and billing systems, contributing to improved billing accuracy and receivable performance

• Promoted a client service philosophy for the finance group, resulting in the highest scores in internal quality surveys
