VA Medical Research Foundation (May 2010 – June 2013)
• Job duty: Working under the supervision of Dr. Lai Ngai and Principal Investigator Dr. Kirk
Hammond, I have been working on a heart failure study using gene therapy. Learned
molecular biology lab techniques and rodent surgery and anesthesia. Animal husbandry (lab)
and animal care.
B) Teaching Assistant – Scripps Institute of Oceanography & Jacobs School of Engineering
UCSD Jacobs School of Engineering- COSMOS Program- (July, 2012-August 4, 2012)
• Job duty: Provided help and assistance for high school students involved in an interactive, 4
week program situated at the Scripps Institute of Oceanography working on experimental
projects in relation to marine biology and marine ecosystem.
C) Medical Research Associate– UCSD School of Medicine
UCSD Family and Preventative Medicine – (August 2012- June 2013)
• Job duties: As part of the UCSD Family and Preventative Medicine, I have been working on
an epidemiology project by scoring CT scans via advanced medical software (MIPAV) and
selecting for subcutaneous, visceral fat, and muscles. Through my job as a research assistant,
I learned about CT scans, human anatomy, and more experience gained in using Microsoft
Excel and Microsoft Word.
D) ER/ ICU unit Volunteer --Scripps Memorial Hospital. La Jolla, CA (February 2010 - March 2011)
• Job duty: (120 hours of volunteer work) Keeping check of stock and inventory materials for
the pathology lab, running errands to and from lab for blood and specimens, picking up and
delivering charts, reporting important information regarding patients to nurses, and being of
assistance to both patients and hospital faculty members.
Special Skills: Rodent surgery and anesthesia, histology, Microscopy (LSM Confocal) and light
microscopy, Bioinformatics, preparing buffers, DNA purification and cloning, cell transformations,
organizational skills. Animal husbandry and animal care as a part of my lab experience in both the VA
Hospital as well as a temporary summer assistant for the psychiatry lab in the UCSD Hillcrest Medical
Center. Other experiences include running gel electrophoresis, PCR, and use of spectrophotometer.
