Working as MANAGER-INCHARGE-NON DESTRUCTIVE TESTING/ MECHANICAL
TESTING/SPECTRAL TESTING LAB STEEL MAKING DEPARTMENT/SAFETY/QUALITY MANAGER
in Process Labs, Quality Assurance Department. Also working as DEPUTY
INCHARGE of Process Labs. Following are my duties and responsibilities.
1. NON-DESTRUCTIVE TESTING:
Coordination & implementation of different NDT jobs for assessing equipment
and plant condition, trouble shooting of equipment failures:
This includes Welding inspection of small and large dia pipes. NDE/
Inspection of gears, motors, turbines, compressors, Zinc bath (cold rolling
mills), Pre-heating furnaces of Cold rolling, Hot strip mills and Billet
mills.
Ultrasonic examination of Working and backup rolls of Cold rolling/Hot
strip/Billet mills
Inspection of boilers, turbines and Metallurgical parts imported by
Pakistan Steel.
Structural failures, pressure parts failures its examination remedial
measures, NDE examination advise etc.
Carrying out inspection jobs as per drawing and concerned International
Standards viz. ASTM, ASME, API, DIN, and GOST standards.
2. MECHANICAL TESTING /MACROEXAMINATION:
Ultimate tensile strength, Elongation, Compressive strength, Bend test,
Hardness, Cupping, Macro examination and sulphur print of blooms, billets
and slabs.
3. SPECTRAL TESTING LAB:
Testing of Cast iron/Carbon steel/Low and High Alloy steel. In addition
testing of Cold rolled, Hot rolled/ galvanized sheets, billets, blooms and
slabs.
4. SAFETY INSPECTION: of Process Labs to ensure the implementation of
personnel safety, Industrial and Environmental safety standards.
5. QUALITY MANAGER: Responsible for the IMPLEMENTATION AND MAINTENANCE OF
ISO-9001-2000, ISO-17025, OHSAS-18001, ISO-14001, SA-8000. Preparation of
Departmental Quality manual, preparation of Quality objectives and its
action plan and in addition to preparing Quality plan for the department.
Preparing for surveillance audit and certification audit for the
department. Prepared Quality Manual and Quality system procedure for ISO-
17025.Process Labs was accredited through Pakistan National Accreditation
Council, Islamabad.
6. Attended two weeks witness/performance test in Almelo, The Netherlands
at the plant of Panalytical (formerly Philips, Holland) for the supply
installation and commissioning of new state of the art x-ray fluorescence
spectrometer for Pakistan SteeL, which was installed at the end of April,
2010
ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE:
. Participated in numerous internal quality audits (ISO-9000) and several
external quality audits and certification audits conducted by AIB
Vincotte International, Brussels, Belgium, SGS Pakistan (Pvt) Ltd,
Karachi, Pakistan and PNAC, Islamabad.
. Prepared quality manuals, health and safety instructions, work
instructions, standard operating procedures, job responsibility of middle
management and junior staff.

Joined Pakistan Steel in 1981 as Assistant Executive Engineer & Posted in
Process Labs (Quality Assurance department), I was promoted as Executive
Engineer in March 1989.
Worked as Shift In charge, Spectral section, NDT section and Mechanical
section with additional experience of Metallographic investigation.
Responsibilities Included:
1. Worked on PW1600/XRF 8660 X-ray spectrometers for the analysis and
testing of all raw materials like Fe-ore, Limesrone, Dolomite,
Refractory materials, Non-Ferrous metals for Pakistan Steel.
2. Worked on Polyvac Emission Spectrometer E-963 for the analysis and
testing of all finished products, like pig iron, steels and alloy
steels. Testing the chemistry of CR, HR sheets, billets and blooms.
3. Mechanical testing of all finished products, viz tensile testing,
Hardness, Cupping, Impact, and Bend test of CR, HR and GP products.
4. Non-destructive testing of welding, castings and forgings which
included Radiography, Ultrasonic Flaw detection, Dye-penetrant
testing, Magnetic particle inspection Visual examination, Thickness
measurement and crack depth measurement
5. Metallographic Examination.

Undergone a 12-months training course at the Pakistan Dock Yard Karachi.
