Resume:

Candidate Name: Patty Smith

Candidate Phone#: Cell#: 650-***-****

Are you a US Citizen? If not, what is your status? If you are on a H1B visa, how much time is

remaining on your visa?

Yes, US Citizen

What Languages do you speak?

English

What is your current address?

854 Jordan Ave. Apt. B Los Altos, CA 94022

What are your strengths?

I believe I am unassuming, unselfish, and have a sincere and genuine interest in other people

and a strong, intuitive understanding of them. Outgoing and friendly, I enjoy working with

people.

A warm and friendly communicator, I am able to stimulate and motivate others while being

aware of and responsive to their needs and concerns. My outgoing personality and sincere,

interested attitude make me easily accessible, and I get along well with a wide variety of

people.

My drive is altruistic, directed at working with and for others; for the team and for the

company. A cooperative, willing worker, I can be particularly effective communicating the

company's policies and systems with enthusiasm and spirit.

Working at a faster than average pace, I learn quickly and know the MS Office suite of

products well. I have also volunteered to take a multitude of classes to assist me with my

current position at Stanford.

What is your current role and why are you looking at other opportunities?

I enjoy working at either a VC/Private Equity company since it is a bit faster pace and ever

changing per company/client. Additionally, Stanford has a cap on salaries and the increases

are minimal for EAs. There is no motivation to stay other than the joy of helping people and

the strong working relationship with the neurosurgeons. I enjoy a no risk no reward

environment rather than a mundane “do the same thing every day” position.

As it relates to an Executive Assistant, what do you specifically bring to the table (experience,

cultural, and practical)? Why should I choose you over the next person?

To reiterate what I said above, I work well with a variety of people and am an effective

communicator. I am an excellent writer and am good with numbers. I have an above average

intelligence and work well under pressure.

Describe your Microsoft Office Exp?

Excellent skills

What is the highest level you have supported and for how long?

C level for over 15 years. Currently, I support two neurosurgeons at Stanford.

Please explain your work history and reasons for movement

APPLE COMPUTER, INC.

When I began my career as an Assistant at Apple Computer, Inc., I enjoyed the fast pace and

exuberance of our team. I felt truly honored and grateful to be surrounded by some of the most

talented individuals in the valley, while expanding my skill set and knowledge of high technology.

Supporting the VP of Sales, I was tasked with heavy scheduling and organizing multi meetings and

events. I enjoyed working with my manager because of our superb rapport and open

communication. The biggest challenge was keeping up with the pace of the ever changing products

and personnel (Apple was growing exponentially at the time).

Why Apple?

The company has incredibly smart, talented, and passionate employees. The senior execs

constantly push the boundaries. Apple makes easy to use products that the average consumer

understands. I worked at Apple for 7 years, only to leave (with mixed emotions) after the birth

of my second child.

VITRIA TECHNOLOGY

Apple Computer was my stepping stone to Vitria, a Sunnyvale based business process management

software company, which I joined after taking a three year sabbatical to stay home with my young

sons. Simply stated, I loved it. I was fortunate enough to work for the VP of Marketing, who

allowed me to work autonomously, while expecting me to meet strict deadlines and deliver. I was

assigned the task of liaison between marketing and the office of the CEO, booking interviews with

various publications looking for their next success story. I was also solely responsible for writing

the company monthly newsletter. With the crash of the market, Vitria ended up laying off the entire

marketing department with the exception of its core personnel. My boss ended up leaving to start

his own company then eventually ended up at a venture capital firm. The biggest challenge was

keeping up with all the emails and all the incoming calls since Vitria was such a successful

company. It IPO’d at 16 and shot up to 300 and split again.

Why Vitria?

This company was at the top of its class in business process automation which was “the place to

be” in the 90’s. I joined the week the company went public.

ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY VENTURES

Contract: EA to General Partner

INTERMUNE BIOPHARMACEUTICALS

Contract: EA to CFO

SYMPHONY TECHNOLOGY GROUP

Symphony Technology was yet a different environment. STG is a strategic private equity firm with

the mission of investing in and being a partner in building great software and services companies.

RPM was one of them. The Chairman's office was an eye shot from mine and although I worked

for the President of RPM, I replaced his assistant whenever needed which was 2 weeks out of the

year for vacation and various other times. I felt empowered because I worked autonomously,

assisting the President, but was also responsible for assisting the employees coming on board with

all HR/benefit related administration, and event planning. I left after my manager took another

position. STG hired a new president, who, in turn, brought his EA of 10 years with him. The

biggest challenge was to get face time with the president since he frequently traveled. That said, he

was incredibly responsive to emails/calls/texts.

Why Symphony Technology Group?

I was told that Symphony RPM had great potential to go public, as was not the case – I did,

however, enjoy working with the President of RPM. He was a very inspirational leader and is

currently an executive at LG in China.

STANFORD INVESTMENT GROUP

At Stanford Investment Group (a boutique wealth management firm) I was the President's right

arm. The position entailed pulling various financial reports in order to prepare portfolios for client

meetings. In addition to scheduling all quarterly meetings for clients, I was in charge of

philanthropic activities such as the go to person for Second Harvest food sort, a passion that the

president had with little time to do it. I coordinated the schedules and recruited volunteers. It made

me feel good to know that we were truly helping out those in need. I also worked with our small

marketing department, putting together various presentations. My other responsibilities included

working with the Operations Director to ensure everyone in the firm had target goals. The biggest

challenge of this position was to learn the financial software and to ensure that the numbers were

correct on the client reports before each and every meeting. I left the firm early in order to relocate

to San Francisco with my husband. At the time, my son was in middle school so the commute was

not possible.

Why Stanford Investment Group?

I enjoy working for a smaller firm and the president needed an EA with a well rounded

background

SETON MEDICAL CENTER

Contract: EA to COO I took a short term position at Seton in the executive offices while still

looking for something permanent. The COO was a stellar person – very kind and communicative.

He actually called me months after I left asking if I could return for another position.

STANFORD HOSPITAL

After that contract position ended, I was offered a position at Stanford Hospital, where I work

presently. I have been here for over two years, working for two top in their class Interventional

Neuroradiologists I enjoy it very much, learning about strokes and aneurysm procedures, but my

passion is being an EA in a firm or high tech company.. I would like to pursue that avenue. Now

that the job market is picking up, I am ready to begin the interviewing process. Although I respect

and enjoy working with the two doctors, I am looking for more empowerment. The biggest

challenge I had to overcome was all the medical terminology.

Why Stanford Hospital?

I was offered the position immediately following my contract work at Seton

The top three priorities in my current search are:

1) Viable business

2) Manager is a great communicator

3) Friendly atmosphere

What do people know best about me?

Even under pressure, I am always very pleasant and professional. I have friends from every

company I’ve been a part of from day one. They still come to my home for dinner. Why? Because

my belief is that we are all a team I teach the EAs software they aren’t familiar with and they

show me things that I don’t know. I am very intelligent, but humble – And working at Stanford

has taught me to be even more humble (I have great mentors). Are amazing. Many times they will

work steady for two days straight with no complaints.

The Unique Gift That I Bring to the Table?

I am a great listener – most people want to talk about themselves or what they have to offer – I

already know that about myself. I always want to learn from them. I am also a very loyal and

trustworthy employee. That is perhaps why I have stayed at Stanford so long. I feel a very strong

bond with both the Neurosurgeons I support.

Current compensation?

Base $60,000

Bonus $5,000

Stock, options, equity….. 401k matching dollar for dollar / paid college tuition for children

And what are you looking for to make a move?

$80,000 $95,000 + bonus My current salary is the lowest I’ve had in years

How much notice do you need to give your current employer?

2 weeks
