Olefins Plant Overview
The design capacity of the Olefins Plant is 1.3m tones per year of polymer grade ethylene product
based on 8000 operating hours per year: this corresponds to 162,000kg/h of polymer grade ethylene
product. Eight furnaces are installed to crack fresh ethane, cracked gas compressor capacity of 84MW
turbine driven, quench separation, demethanizer,de-ethanizer,de-propanizer internal recycle (Return
to previous stage or equipment) ethane, fresh propane, internal recycle propane, and internal; recycle
C4/C5 hydrocarbon (An organic compound containing only hydrogen and carbon.)

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Routine checkup all process equipment
Cracked gas compressor
Quench separation
Cracking Furnace operation in the HOT section.
Boiler operation –VHP steam 107kg/cm
Reporting all the abnormalities and failure to the control room and to take
corrective measures.
Preparation of Safe Operating Procedure (SOP)
Plant startup and planned shutdown activies.
Start up of various pumps and maintaining dosing rates with the help of
metering pumps.
Co ordinate with the technical & Maintenance service department to solve the
problem.
To coordinate with panel engineers for trouble free operation.
Assist mechanical crew in maintenance and calibration of process instrument
Safely isolate & de-isolate the equipments as per HSE, PTW & LOTO

PROCESS OVER VIEW :
LAB PLANT:
Raw material is straight run Kerosene from Chennai Refineries containing C 7 - C17 carbon chain. The
desired heart cut of C10 – C13 is produced in Prefractionator columns, which is hydro desulfurised in
the Hydrotreater. The n-paraffin from sweetened heart cut is selectively adsorbed and separated by
simulated moving bed technique in Molex adsorbent chambers.
The n-paraffin are converted to Olefins by dehydrogenation (similar to plat forming) in the Pacol
reactors (Duplex radial flow). The olefins are reacted with Benzene in the presence of anhydrous
Hydrofluoric acid to form Linear Alkyl Benzene in the Detergent Alkylator. Final product

separation is by vacuum distillation. The heat load to the entire plant is supplied by circulating Therm
–S –600.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
Operation of Linear alkyl benzene plant from the field.
