PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Research In Charge – Nov 2010 – Dec 2012

I have served as the founder Head of Contract Research Operation, (DGM contract/custom

research operations) at Navin Fluorine international Ltd (NFIL), India. Extensive research work

was the main function on Developing new Processes and Scaling it up from labs to Kilo labs to

pilot plant scale (~100 kg) for novel molecules (New Chemical Entity). Well versed with scale up

technologies, the technology transfer and trouble shooter for the early stage new product

development

Leading the operation along with a team of 25 researchers and handling multiple development

projects simultaneously. Other activities are maintaining the collaboration with many multinational

clients across the world and also engaged in the business development work, Preparing the

annual budget and sales planning with marketing team, Hiring the scientists and other personnel,

Procuring the instruments, setting up and maintaining the labs, Aligning the day to day task with

all the support functions, Guiding the scientific team, project management team and

marketing/business development team to do the competitive costing/bidding, Providing

leadership/management within the department through a structured process of objective setting,

performance appraisal (Balanced Score Card), and individual development.

I have visited periodically to the clients’ sites at UK and USA to strengthen the ongoing

relationship as well as to take part in new business development activity. Ensuring that all

chemistry functions are completed in accordance with organizational and government standards

of safety and quality, and that all experimental documentation is complete and timely.

Principal Scientist Jun 2009 Oct 2010

Worked as a Principal Scientist in Jubilant Chemsys, a Delhi based Contract Research

Organization with a team of 32 junior scientists. Dealt with critical situation and provided value

added services which helped to improve better relationship with the client.

Team Leader 2005 May 2009

I have worked at Chembiotek, one of the leading Contract Research Organization in the Asia

pacific region. Leading, managing and carrying out R&D work with three different clients (One

from USA and two from Japan) comprising 48 junior scientists and ensure timely completion of

these projects.

This work requires rigorous research work and timely delivery of the targets. The targets are

potential drug candidates and must be kept strictly confidential. The chemistry involves synthesis

of novel molecules containing pyrazole, imidazole, benzodiazepine, pyridyl etc., and many other

heterocyclic derivatives.

Evaluate new project proposals from the clients with respect to time, material and FTE allocation

in consultation with the respective program managers. Maintaining the day to day monitoring of

the projects with the managers and trouble shooting as and when requires. Align technical

functions with logistic and purchase. Manage optimal utilization of resources. Mentoring the

teams and direct reports.

Helped in building the successful teams. Provided solutions to many dead end projects.

Maintained very seamless communications with all the clients. Managed prudently various groups

of total 55 scientific personnel at different levels. Shown competencies outside the area of

scientific work e.g., coordinating the Task Force (Logistics and procurement) and the problem

solving seminars. Developed time saving and easy to write reporting (Weekly or biweekly) style.

Follow and implement the SOPs in the area of EHS.

Able to meet client’s expectation. Managed tough situations with sensitive clients, delicately.

Helped to improve the productivity of various teams. Visited client sites and attended several Joint

Scientific Council meetings.

Represented Chembiotek at the Outsourcing Conference 2008 at NJ, USA.

ACADEMIC RESEARCH and TEACHING

Research Associate : Jul 2003 – Nov 2005

University of Alberta/National Institute for Nanotechnology (NINT), NRC, AB T6G 2V4, Canada

Postdoctoral Research Supervisor: Prof. H. Fenniri.

The works involved design, synthesis and characterization of self complimentary polynucleotide

analogues in order to achieve a nano tubular hexaplex, a novel material with a predefined length.

And as a part of another project many long chain alkyl derivatives were prepared to achieve

fibrous structures. These projects were multidisciplinary projects in collaboration with scientists

from other fields and involved developing new motif for self assembly generated supramolecular

structure and the basic synthon was based on carbohydrate derivatives. I have worked as a

supervisor for two Master’s level students during this period.

Post Doctoral Research Fellow: Mar 2003 Jul 2003.

University of California Los Angeles, CA 90095, USA. Postdoctoral Research Supervisor: Dr. J.

Rao. “Design and synthesis of novel fluorogenic substrates (small organic molecules) for imaging

β lactamase gene expression”

Post Doctoral Research Fellow Jan 2001 Feb 2003.

University of California Riverside, CA 92521. USA.

Postdoctoral Research Supervisor: Prof. C. Switzer. “Synthesis, oligomerization and charge

transport property studies of unnatural oligonucleotides”. The project was a part of an

interdisciplinary work in bioorganic chemistry. My focus was on design and synthesis of novel

nucleosides, nucleotides and its phosphoramidites and then apply those to DNA synthesis and

oligomerization studies.

Research Fellow Oct 1995 Jan 2000.

Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, Calcutta, India.
