BACKGROUND SUMMARY
I am a results-oriented IT professional with expertise in leadership,
software development and systems support. I have successfully leveraged my
background in Engineering, Chemistry and IT to create and deploy numerous
laboratory information management and lab automation systems to over 60
locations around the globe. I have three years experience in managing,
developing and supporting software systems in an FDA regulated pharma
environment and 21 years experience in a non-pharma environment.
I am client-focused with superior communication skills and demonstrable
strengths in taking customer ideas from concept to reality. I am looking
for new opportunities to grow professionally and embrace new skills.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AND SELECTED ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Bausch + Lomb, INC., Rochester NY Sep 2010-Current
GLIMS Program Lead
As the Program Lead for Bausch + Lomb's global laboratory information
management system initiative, I am responsible for overall project
leadership for all LIMS deployments, management of the LIMS IT staff,
creation of the FDA required project and change management documentation,
and vendor management.
In this role, I have been responsible for managing the development and
deployment of two major LIMS system enhancements (stability and enhanced
microbiology), numerous minor enhancements and the deployment of the LIMS
system to two additional B+L sites.
As part of my responsibilities, I enjoy working closely with the site and
lab personnel to analyze the sites' needs. This close interaction with site
personnel has allowed me to create verifiable and effective LIMs processes
to support the lab operations. I have documented and created user and
functional requirement specifications for the quality labs' finished
product, raw materials environmental monitoring and reporting needs.
Currently, I am redesigning the LIMS environmental monitoring workflow to
create a verifiable and supportable process. Additionally, I am leading the
analysis of the next major LIMS upgrade where B+L will be looking to
improve supportability of the LIMS by replacing as much of the existing
LIMS customizations as possible with out of the box functionality.
AIR PRODUCTS & CHEMICALS, INC., Allentown, PA 1989-Apr 2010
LIMS Subject Matter Expert
(2007 - Apr 2010)
As the subject matter expert, I was responsible for consulting with
internal APCI clients to design and implement enhancements to the APCI LIMS
system. Additionally, I acted as 3rd level support to assure continuity of
support and maintenance of the production systems.
LBShell Development Team Lead and AD Leads Team Lead (2007 - Apr 2010)
LBShell is an in-house developed software suite designed to manage the
logistics of the APCI liquid bulk distribution fleet. The team was
responsible for development and support of the product.
As the LBShell team lead, I was responsible for leading a team of 4 to 9
developers. I lead the team though 10 successful major software releases
which included deployment of the system to 7 countries in Asia, 4 countries
in Central Europe and Brazil. My responsibilities included setting team
goals and deliverables, managing of client and team expectations, reporting
project status to IT management and clients, managing developer resource,
human resource planning, project management, and coordinating 7x24 level 3
support.
As the AD leads team lead, I provided resource management and human
resource planning. The AD Leads provide application development, solution
analysts and project management functions for the new solutions department.
LIMS Product Owner and LIMS Team Lead, WinLIMS (1993 - 2007)
As the LIMS product owner, I lead the effort to implement the first LIMS at
Air Products and, subsequently, rolled out the LIMS to 60 quality assurance
laboratories spanning the US, Europe and Asia.
. Lead a team of three developers (2001 - 2007)
. Deployed the LIMS suite globally to 60 locations globally (US, EU,
Asia).
. Developed, and lead a team in the development of, 40+ instrument
interfaces, data acquisition, data analysis and reporting tools (VB6,
TSQL, Crystal reports).
. Provided server and database administration functions for the 14 LIMS
servers
. Developed software to transfer data between LIMS and SAP, and between
LIMs and APCI production data systems.
. Developed two customize LIMS systems which were subsequently merged
into one global system to comply with APCI corporate implementation of
SAP.
. Ported all functionality from VGLIMS system to new WinLIMS system,
developed 3 VB3 programs to replace the legacy VGLIMS data acquisition
functionality.
LIMS Product Owner and Developer, VGLIMS 1990 - 1993
In response to external client requirements, I worked with the Air Products
Hometown Quality assurance lab management to define and developed a
customized LIMS system to enforce the lab's quality process. The
implementation of this custom LIMS enabled APCI to meet the external client
requirements for analytical data quality and accuracy, and retain the
client's business.
VGLIMS was a commercial VAX-VMS based Laboratory Information Management
System. This system was terminal based and predated client-server
technology.
. Developed customized version of VGLIMS using vendor supplied VGL
programming language
. Developed three custom programs to acquire analytical data from lab
instruments and enforce lab operational standards.
. Deployed and installed LIMS in major APCI quality assurance lab
. Provided 7x24 support
. Performed all system administration and maintenance.
Systems Engineer, R&D Lab Automation Aug 1989 - Oct 1990
As a Systems Engineer working with the APCI R&D community, I developed more
than 12 lab automation applications. These systems were created to address
the need for automated data collection and to support the 24 hr/day
operation of the labs.
Systems Engineer, Liquid Bulk Process Control Mar 1989 - Aug 1989
As a Systems Engineer on the Liquid Bulk team, I developed software for
retrieving and reporting plant operational data. APCI liquid Bulk process
control was based on in-house developed software running on VAX PDP
systems. These systems were used around the world to provide process
control and reporting for the APCI liquid bulk plants.
Phillips Petroleum Company, Bartlesville, OK
1985 - 1989
Research Engineer
As a research engineer, I was responsible for evaluating catalyst for use
in the production petroleum catalytic cracker units, and making
recommendations. These recommendations influenced purchases that averaged
$30,000/day in catalyst
. Managed the operation of a large scale catalytic convertor pilot plant
with a staff of 8 operators
. Managed the research direction and schedule for the plant operation
. Analyzed the plant data and provided recommendations on suitable
catalysts for the Phillips production units.
. Developed models of petroleum conversion process effects of heavy
metals contamination on product yield.
EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Doctorate, Chemical Engineering 1981-1985
Texas Tech University, Lubbock, TX
