Resume:

Deborah A. Gordon, A.A.S., B.S., LPN

*** **** ****** *****, **********, NC 28412

Home Phone #: 910-***-**** E-mail: ab2cv1@r.postjobfree.com

Introduction: I am an LPN residing in New Hanover County for the past 7 years. I graduated Cape Fear Community College in Aug. 2012, and love the medical field because things are always changing and I love learning new things. I am a real people-person, having worked in the past in Customer Service for over 26 years at The Phone Company in NYC. I am seeking an LPN position in the Correctional setting, having had recent experience in Pender County Jail as an LPN there. I am excited about this job opening, and am applying for BOTH the PRN as well as the full-time job opportunities!

General Summary: Experience in clinical settings with 3-month rotations in: Medical Surgery, PACU, Gastroenterology patient care, Newborn Nursery, Ante Partum & Post Partum, Bariatrics, and Childhood Development. Duties at New Hanover Hospital and Trinity Grove included skills under the scope of practical nursing for the State of North Carolina, Health Care related computer skills for charting (EPIC at NH Hospital and PCC for nursing home/s). LIC # 77627, exp. 3-15-2014.

Experience: Currently, I work every other weekend (about 4 days per MONTH) at the Pender County Jail as an LPN. I am seeking work closer to my home, within New Hanover County (where I live!), as well as more hours--one can NOT live on a 4 days/mo. income very well...At Pender County Jail, we assess intakes (new prisoners) with a full physical, chart it, write orders for continuance of meds for inmates' ongoing healthcare (doctor signs them once a week); distributing meds to inmates twice/day; referring inmates to Mental Health; putting inmates at risk on Detox protocols asap; initiating Medical watches (i.e. suicide threats, behavioral problems, withdrawal, etc.); using nursing skills to keep an eye on inmates or conditions which I believe could prove detrimental to an inmate's health in the near future. I love Correctional nursing because it gives me an opportunity to bring compassion, humor, good judgment, fairness and vitality to the jail each day. It also offers me the opportunity to use my analytical skills, my prior learning and knowledge, and most important, plain old common sense and gut-instinct, to the already flourishing nursing skills, within the scope of practice of an LPN.

I have worked, briefly, PRN at these Nursing Homes: Kindred Care, on S. 17th St. I left there to take the job at Pender County Jail. I also worked at North Chase/Britthaven, for about 3 months, this past winter, as they went from an 8 hour day to a 12-hour day; unfortunately, the staff did not like the fit for that facility, so when they went back to 8-hour days, I was declared surplus...but the DON there, Karen Schaller, said she would write me a great reference, should I ever need one. In the Nursing Home environment, I learned to care for Geriatric patients, whom I adored! I learned trach care there, gastric tube feeding; distributing the many, MANY maintenance meds at specific times (Med Cart); charting in PCC (Point Click Care--a great system, very intuitive!); handling of codes (blue; fall codes); changing out 02 rigging; assessments (skin, cardiac, pulmonary; mental health behaviors; eyes; etc.); Heparin and Insulin injections; patient education; wound care; Vitals, esp. blood pressure, as it relates to the patient's medical condition (noting changes vs. reporting them to the RN even the MD); Cath inserts and Ostomy care; diet as it relates to overall patient health; and The takeaway, for me, in the Rehabilitation/Nursing home setting was that I became proficient at basic LPN nursing tasks, and learned that the elderly in nursing homes are a special demographic with special needs most of the time--but in the end, they are just like ME, so I made it a point to treat the residents with dignity, humor and kindness, whenever I interacted with them.

Experience OUTSIDE of the LPN realm: I worked my entire life for NY Telephone/NYNEX/BellSouth/Verizon Communications in NYC. I worked my way up from Customer Service Rep to Power Technician, and finally onto Management. I retired in 2007 as a Staff Consultant/Project Manager for the NYC E-911 Network, where I was in charge of Fire, Police, Dispatchers and EMS/Ambulance networks, on 24 X 7 X 365 call for ANY IP/Telephony outages; lead the Customer Service team in the new E-911 replacement system; trained NYPD brass on how to use specialized features and equipment after the change-outs; did Building Power shutdowns and redundant network switches from active to backup configuration; chaired weekly "State of Network Health" meetings at 1 Police Plaza; etc. It was a challenging career, but I love to figure out what might be wrong with something, and try my best to fix it as quickly as possible. NOTE: I will bring my "NON-LPN/BUSINESS WORLD resume along with me, should I be granted an interview.
