Experience
F reeport McMoRan Copper and Gold, Safford, AZ (Research Engineer I – P rocess)
J an 2013 to P resent
• Assigned to four month rotations to various mine sites. Currently at Safford SX/EW.
o Designed organic entrainment calculator for accurate and instantaneous calculation of
organic lost resulting in t ime savings of up to 5 man hours a week.
o Modified SOP for organic health evaluation to exclude false positive of presence of solids in
t he organic.
o Wrote a proposal – ult rasonic assisted electrowinning. Bench scale setup is being
u ndertaken by the Technology Center based on the proposal.
o Proposed theories for high aqueous entrainments and long phase disengagement t imes. Put
forward economic and viable alternative remedies for the same.
o Helped with daily decision making for smooth operation of the solvent extraction plant.
F reeport McMoRan Copper and Gold, Safford, AZ (Summer I ntern) J un
2012 to Aug 2012
• Worked on membrane separation of ions from PLS – TenkeFungurume
o Researched and liaised with suppliers for finding appropriate technology
o Compiled various options for testing at lab scale
• Worked on De-oiling of molybdenum concentrate from Bagdad
o Found technology for de-oiling through research
o Demonstrated efficiency of att r i tion scrubbing technology to reduce oil percentage by up to
27%
o Suggested complete replacement of Pressure leaching by microwave technology for de-oiling
and conversion of moly con to molybdenum oxide.
• Researched and compiled research information about microwaves in crushing and grinding
Particle Engineering and Research Center (PERC), University of Florida, Gainesville
Sep 2011 to Dec 2012
• Worked as a student assistant for synthesis and characterization of a photo-catalytic antibacterial
T iO 2 coating
o Used dip coating and spray coating for synthesis of TiO2 coating
o Characterization of coating was done using SEM, UV-Vis, Nanotrac etc.
o Tested effectiveness of antibacterial coating using degradation of dyes
o Tested coating in hospitals in collaboration with NanoHygenix L LC to reduce r isk of re-
infections
I ndian I nstitute of Science, Bangalore, I ndia (Research Assistant) J uly 2010
t o February 2011
• Worked on a project based on synthesis of mesoporous silica and ti tania to be used in Dye
Sensitized Solar Cells using sol gel method of synthesis. The mesoporous silica and ti tania were
synthesized in free particle and thin film form. Scanning electron microscopy and optical
p rofilometry were used to characterize the thin films.
• Setup the furnace to be used for synthesis of ZnO nanowires for Dye Sensitized Solar Cells; using
CVD process.
• Worked on synthesis of Silver nanoparticles using a new reactor design – Spinning Bowl Spinning
D isc Reactor.
Sterlite Technologies Ltd., Aurangabad, I ndia (Trainee Process Engineer) October
2009 to June 2010
• Member of process improvement and sustainability team of Soot Overcladding (SOC) department,
p rimarily responsible for optical fiber preform quality for long length break free optical fiber.
• Worked with engineers from Nextrom Technologies to setup a vertical OVD (outside vapor
deposition) machine which produced optical fiber preforms of twice the fiber yield and efficiency
t han horizontal deposition machines.
• Worked on a project to scale up the production capacity of deposition machines in Soot
Overcladding (SOC) department in order to produce optical fiber preforms which yielded 10%
more optical fiber.
Chambal Fertilizers and Chemicals Ltd., Kota, I ndia ( Intern) J uly 2008
t o December 2008
• Successfully completed a project to evaluate the cooling water network of the Urea Plant.
T heoretical calculations were compared with the actual values of pressure at various points in the
network to identify problems at various points in the network.
Grasim I ndustries Ltd., Nagda, I ndia (Summer I ntern) May
2007 to July 2007
• Worked on a project to study the construction and working of Acid Absorption Crystallizer.
