medical, lighting, military, and security applications.
• Preparing research proposals to various funding agencies (DOE, DOD, HLS, NSF, and NIH).
• Working with Stanford Medical group to synthesize nanophosphors for X-ray imaging, cancer diagnosis and
therapeutics.
Senior Program Manager – Xicato Inc., San Jose, CA 6/2010 – 10/2012
Actively participated in development of new LED based modules for high brightness and special lighting
applications. Engineered phosphor blends and remote coating processes for higher performance LED
modules for lighting applications. Managed day-to-day operations in selection, procurement and
characterization of phosphors and related material for development and manufacturing of LED modules.
Improved a remote phosphor coating process for high temperature LED lighting applications. Actively
contributed in NPD.
• Also developed phosphor-printing process for patterning phosphor for higher efficiency and the
process is being transferred to manufacturing.
• Invented a deposition process (non silicone) and thin phosphor layers for remote phosphor modules
(US Patent: 201********).
Phosphors Program Leader - SRI International, Menlo Park, CA 6/ 2008 – 6/2010
Developed nano materials (phosphors) and coating processes for LED-based lighting, diagnosis and
therapeutics of cancer, display, and security. Involved in writing proposals to Govt. agencies for funding.
• Worked with a cancer research team at Stanford University to develop nano materials for diagnosis
and therapeutics of various cancers.
• Able to reduce the thermal degradation and minimized the loss of light (LED lighting) due to
scattering with suitable encapsulates, improved morphology and surface treatment of phosphors.
• Worked on unique phosphor formulations and characterization for laser based 3D TVs.
Director, Phosphor R&D - Intematix Corp., Fremont, CA 3/2007-6/2008
Worked with a group of scientists and engineers to develop and manufacture inorganic phosphor materials
for lighting, display, and renewable energy applications.
• Invented novel phosphors for LCD backlight and transferred the process to manufacturing (a patent
got issued) and developed a low temperature synthesis process of submicron nitride and oxy-nitride based
phosphors (US patent application got issued).
2
• Participated in preparing ISO documents and procedures to obtain ISO-9001 certification.
Director (R&D) and Fellow - Authentix Inc., Douglassville, PA 09/2005 – 3/2007
Synthesized novel nanophosphors for security applications with unique signatures to cater to the needs of
Fortune 100 companies. Established a strategy in manufacturing, quality initiatives, and acquisitions.
• Managed a small group to manufacture nanophosphors for inkjet printing materials with unique
signatures for authentication.
• Generated SOPs and obtained ISO-9001 certification.
Senior Scientist (R&D) - Panasonic Plasma Display Laboratory of America, Highland, NY 1996 – 2005
Effectively managed a group of technical staff to develop highly efficient, small-particle phosphors for large-
area HD plasma TVs. Designed and performed failure analysis to understand the fundamentals and help
develop better materials. Played a key role in creating, selecting and managing projects related to phosphor
screen-printing, frit seal, external filters, and display performance (brightness, decay, life time, and color
coordinates).
• Managed a small group technical staff in Highland (USA) in collaboration with a large group in
Osaka (Japan) in developing and manufacturing submicron size phosphors suitable for inject process.
• Invented new and improved brightness, life, and stability of existing phosphor materials for large
size HDTV Plasma TVs. Some of the inventions are being used in Plasma TVs worldwide
Senior Scientist - Color Display Corp., Fremont, CA 1994 – 1996
• Prepared YAG based phosphor materials with unique surface treatment for FED applications to
withstand high current densities.
