Lead QC and Service Technologist
I was the primary Service Tech for Hampton to service and repair VFD’s for different
manufacturers like ABB, WEG, Benshaw, Siemens and many more. I was the Quality
Control lead for Production of Control and VFD Panels, including electrical and wiring
of Instrumentation. I also Pre-commissioned drives in the field and serviced as well. I
was on call service tech support, and took care of the production team as a lead on
projects. Organized Drafting layouts with drafting lead and engineered build ups for
motion control and PLC’s.
Feb. 2010 – Apr. 2011
Siemens Building Technology, Calgary, AB
Siemens Automation Tech.
I service a wide range of siemens building technology products for building automation
in buildings throughout Calgary, for HVAC and other building controls. Also involved in
PEX construction and commissioning of the products, several boiler systems for radiant
heat and cooling from main air handling units. The Insight HMI control system was
placed on a server at each site to monitor and control the entire building, we also installed
and setup the software as well as for Preventative maintenance schedules.
Jun. 2009 – Nov. 2009
GLC Controls, Calgary, AB
Senior Controls Service Technician
Controls Service for all industries including manufacturing and water. I was lead service
technician for GLC which included service and programming for most Brands of PLC
and VFD drives for motion and motor controls. I also helped sales with procurement,
proposals and pricing from distributors. Designing systems for industries requiring
upgrades was also important especially for newer technology and improving productivity
and requiring less energy usage.
Sep. 2007 – Apr. 2009
Siemens Water Technology, Calgary, AB
Siemens Water Technologist
Water Technology involving control systems for water softeners, Carbon pretreatment,
and Reverse Ozmosis, with deionizing resin for high quality water in numerous industries
from Dialysis at hospitals, to Coke Bottling Plant. Also I maintained the Membrane Bio
reactor at Grey Eagle Casino which was controlled by Simatics PLC, HMI and Siemens
variable frequency drives, programming and troubleshooting involved as well as pump
seal and level control maintenance. Earned Air brakes certificate while driving
freightliner for Siemens.
Sep. 2006 – Sep.2007
Promet, Calgary, AB
Meteorological Field Service
Field air monitoring for local gas company well sites, including SO2 and H2S sensors,
extensive SCADA and data acquisition, remote setup by way of helicopter. Designed and
managed Projects, like the Remote Monitoring System, I built and designed 15 units for
Promet. Including Campbells Scientific Data Loggers, powered by solar Batteries and
Panels, several connections for H2S and SO2 inputs, wind head mechanism to measure
wind speed and direction with built in compass, several TC temperature inputs for inside
and out of units. Meteorlogical towers also used onsite for 100 ft clearance of wind head,
real time controls and alarming used. Once SO2 was detected at remote station on
mountain, the data logger would shut down well from emitting anymore SO2 at flare
stack. Otherwise it will flare, I maintained and built these systems which we could have
many out at one time on separate gas wells all over Alberta and BC.
Sep. 2005 – Sep.2006
Diagnostic Engineering, Calgary, AB
Meteorological Field Service
This involves Field air monitoring for local gas company well sites, including SO2 and
H2S sensors, extensive SCADA and data acquisition, remote setup by way of helicopter.
It is a similar description to the Promet information and duties above.
Mar/ 2005 – Sep/2005
Pyramid Corporation, NISKU, AB
Instrumentation Area Support
I serviced oil and gas plants with Service truck in field, as regular preventative maintenance
schedules of Instrumentation, Hydraulics, and Pneumatics. Pyramid Locations in Calgary, Swan
hills, Red Earth, Slave Lake, Rainbow Lake and Zama. Calibration of Hydraulic ESD’s for
pipelines in the SW and SE of Calgary, did work in High Prairie at OSB Mill on pressure controls
for incinerator, and temperature TC’s. H2S and SO2 local monitor calibrations for compressor
skids and entire Gas plants.
Mar/ 2004 – Mar/2005
GE FANUC, Edmonton, AB.
PLC and motion Tech. Support GE
PLC, Motion and Quick Panel technical support, communicated solutions to customer
issues with GE FANUC series 90 PLC’s, motion controllers, digital/analog servo and
stepper motor drives. Quick Panel HMI using all forms of protocol drivers and wiring
networks, Cimplicity Machine Edition and Quick Designer software. Device Net cards
and protocol, GE SL VFD’s (Variable Frequency Drives), and other forms of motion
controls also supported for auto industries like Hummer etc. Most of the customers were
in the United States, and some in Canada, most motion controls I supported were in a
manufacturing environment.
Mar/ 2001 – Jun/ 2003
General Electric, Schenectady, NY.
Gas Turbine Instrumentation specialist GE
I was a Senior Test Specialist for GEPS tuning Gas Turbines for many Peaker Plants all
over the world. I completed commissioning on site at many plants, once built the unit
was tested based on power output, fuel consumption, stability on temperature, and
Emissions etc.., I used instrumentation on site to measure and record temperatures
throughout unit as well as power output and gas flow with Rosemount transmitters. We
also had CO2, NOX, and Oxygen Analyzers on the exhaust stack which we would
calibrate before hand with proper calibration gases. We frequently tested steam turbines
on site as well as part of heat recovery transferred to more power output. I used a portable
gas chromatograph for analyzing Natural gas composition while in the field as part of
final performance test of Gas Turbines for GE. High Voltage Generator Measurements
using metering PT’s and CT’s for GEPS.
June 27-Dec. 8/2000
NF Hydro, Holyrood, NF.
Instrumentation Technologist
Several of the Thermal power plant duties involved regular shutdown Preventative
Maintenance during summer and service while in operation during the winter. I held a
contract position as instrumentation tech. maintaining systems from water treatment plant
to the boiler controls and instrumentation, to all instrumentation on the steam turbines,
many processes required maintenance. I overhauled many control valves and actuators,
and the control loops involved, once valves were returned it was necessary to calibrate
the loop with all transmitters and the control system in the control room. all types of
processes serviced from level controls using sonar, radar, pressure, capacitance probes
and floats to controls for fuel and atomizing air for boiler guns. Emission controls to limit
SO2, also Environmental Monitoring of water treatment plant, Ph values, Sulfur Dioxide,
Oxygen levels in exhaust gases and Sodium levels in boiler water for NF. Hydro.

Power Systems Technician
Assembled and documented Transformer Monitoring System for Ontario Hydro
Technologies, designed and implemented layout and relay switching Components, LCD
display, Nema rated enclosures, Surface mount and through hole while populating PCB’s
for project. The units were designed to detect leakage currents, oil levels and
temperatures, monitor power levels and relay data to computer systems for controls.
May 15-June 28/ 1996
