IFES is a global non-profit organization that assists developing democratic countries across the world set up best-practice voting systems.

Hired by IFES’s executive management to analyze, redesign, improve and document existing the company’s Cognos EP v. 8.3 models.

IFES’ existing models had been not been utilized for over a year due to incomplete models and lack of documentation. These things made the analysis of IFES’ models extremely tedious.

Responsible for IFES’s upgrade them to IBM Cognos EP v. 8.4, their most current version.

Trained key IFES personnel in the following areas: understanding model flow, administration of new models, and how to further enhance/expand these models.

Senior Financial & Business Intelligence Consultant, 11/2008 – 03/2010

IBM Corporation is worldwide leader in innovative information technology solutions.

Senior Consultant and functional lead responsible for designing Cognos EP v. 8.3 & 8.4 solutions for IBM’s long-term Cognos Planning project with the Department of Energy (DOE) and later Michigan State University (MSU).

o These are/were both extremely large, long-term projects: IBM kicked-off DOE’s iBudget project in 2007, and the contract duration was to go well into 2013. MSU starting in June 2009 and is slated go through February 2011.

IBM’s iBudget project was DOE’s first enterprise-wide, end-to-end budgeting solution that was going to replace multiple, stovepipe legacy systems. The iBudget team was also deploying Cognos Business Intelligence (BI) v. 8.4 to over 200 DOE users which would have provided them with their first ever enterprise level reporting, analysis and dashboard system for the budget formulation and execution.

As one of the lead Cognos EP developer, I was responsible for gathering design requirements, implementing, testing and documenting five of the nine separate, but linked Cognos EP models, which comprised the IBM iBudget solution.

I was also responsible for training five DOE employees in Cognos EP so they could take over as Cognos EP Administrators.

As a part of my role, I regularly interfaced with the iBudget BI Team to ensure that the appropriate source for the EP budget data has been correctly modeled in Cognos BI v. 8.4.

Lead Cognos EP developer at MSU where my responsibilities included:

o All aspects of implementation including project management, development, cross-team coordination, and training MSU “power-users.”

I created and ran ACP Consulting as an S Corporation in order to facilitate contracting with the following companies/agencies. I was the owner and the only employee of the company, and I completed the following projects prior to the recession which forced me to return to Corporate America.

MITRE Corporation – McLean, Virginia - 5/2008 – 9/2008

o I was specifically brought in to enhance two, incomplete and non-functioning Cognos EP models. In addition to incorporating best practice modeling techniques which were not present, I furnished comprehensive documentation for these models and made an independent recommendation that another application, TM1, would better serve MITRE’s needs. This recommendation was adopted by MITRE.

New Vision Engineering Group, Inc. – Falls Church, Virginia - 11/2007 – 4/2008

o I was a project manager for the administration and maintenance of the Defense Contract Management Agency’s (DCMA) Cognos Metrics Manager v. 2.2 as well as Cognos EP. Additionally, I served as the single Help Desk expert and trainer for the entire population of DCMA Metrics Manager end users (roughly 9,500 employees).

DataClarity Corporation – HQ in Raleigh, North Carolina (I was based in Northern Virginia)

Senior Financial/Cognos Consultant, 2005 – 2007

DataClarity is a value-added reseller and one of only a few platinum-level partners with Cognos Corporation that has roughly 50 consultants. We implemented Business Intelligence solutions including Enterprise Planning models leveraging Cognos’ suite of products and best practices.

Senior financial systems consulting position implementing the Cognos EP (versions Adaytum Planning, 7.2, 7.3, 8.2) module of the Cognos suite of BI software.

Responsible for all aspects of implementation at Fortune 500 to Fortune 1000 companies and government agencies, from gathering requirements through documentation, building, testing, roll-out and training.

Typically, I was project manager & consultant, where I was responsible for all aspects of successful projects, from design & development through training the client’s Cognos’ Administrators and end-users.

Additionally, I managed several other junior consultants on larger projects as I did with Lucent Technologies.

Implementations included the 2nd largest national medical diagnostics firm, a global financial company, a global manufacturer and wholesaler of cookware, and a large regional insurance company. Additionally, I built several successful proof-of-concept models, including one for the Department of Defense.

Worked closely with existing, typically MS Excel-based, financial, human resources and budgeting models and covert them to Cognos Enterprise Planning models.

Directly responsible for furnishing complex documentation on eight separate Cognos Models. Documentation included one manual for model administrators and one manual for end-users.

Our solutions primarily included an Indirect & Direct Cost Model, a Rates Model, and a Facilities Costing Model, leading to a Quarter Rates Submission model. As a result of having to adhere to strict DCAA guidelines, these models mainly consisted of extremely large, complex costing cubes.
