Professional Profile, 1998 – 2010:

In 1998 at the age of 20 I graduated from the Massage School of Santa Monica in Los Angeles County. I have been a busy and enthusiastic practicing therapist for 12 years now, with a great variety of job experiences as well as a generous amount of additional training. I have always loved the work.

Fresh out of massage school I wanted to work in a medical atmosphere and so submitted my new credentials to local chiropractors. I soon found a great starting position and went on to specialize in this type of massage therapy for five years. I experienced the enormous satisfaction of helping patients work through injuries, watching steady, progressive physical change take place through regular massage sessions. This proved to be a valuable foundation for all later massage work. However, I was beginning to grow restless and wanted to expand my horizons into the glam “spa world.”

In 2004 I moved from Los Angeles to Desert Hot Springs, Ca. where I had been offered a staff position at the jointly owned sister spas, Miracle Springs Resort and Spa, and Desert Hot Springs Spa & Resort. This was my very first venture into the “spa world”, as my other jobs had all been in chiropractic offices. I knew I had a lot to learn, as this was somewhat different from the medical approach. It was still about being friendly while creating a calming and relaxing atmosphere, but the emphasis was more on customer service. And there was a whole new industry to learn about.

During this time I attended a full course of study at the Desert Healing Center where I learned much from their excellent teachers about anatomy & physiology as well as hydrotherapy, including other body treatments.

My therapeutic body work now includes Swedish massage, deep tissue, structural integration, cranial sacral, acupressure, reflexology, pre-natal and hot stone massage. My style had begun to display more advanced technical knowledge featuring firm touch and relaxing flow, well suited for most body types. I began to see that through massage I could guide my clients toward total body awareness, one of the basic keys to optimal health.

In 2007 I moved to Bend, Oregon, I was fortunate to become one of the first massage therapists at the new and upscale Moxy Salon and Spa. The innovative owner delegated a variety of duties to me, training and polishing me to branch out into retail sales. I enjoyed the learning curve and value the additional work skills.

My Ace Odyssey:

In February of 2009 I applied to the new Spa at the Ace Hotel in Palm Springs. I knew this group had a number of successful sister hotels throughout the country and sensed the excitement. The new management team brought me aboard as one of their first massage therapists, where I worked hard and hectic alongside this starter team, building the old Howard Johnson shell quickly to a starlet-and-Hollywood-driven “in-place”. I was ALWAYS available and worked my way up to Lead Therapist in short order. Dependability was my middle name. I practically lived at the Ace and took on so many duties they had to make me Spa Coordinator by default. Some of my **duties were:

** Training new therapists, managing front desk, scheduling therapists & estheticians, checking clients in/out via micros, open/closing procedures, night audit reports, cash drop, inventory/ordering/pricing/stocking/maintenance of spa area & treatment rooms w/products/linens, organizing back bar, menu development, spa payroll, communicating and working with other lead people throughout the resort, giving guests tours of the Ace and promoting the resort. I also led a yoga class.

It was fun and certainly taught me to deal with pressure-cooker situations while smiling brightly through our back-stage terror, pretending to be calm when calamity was eminent, and handling hundreds of details when it was obvious that everything was a priority. There were ever present challenges of creatively using existing space and resources to make our guests happy and comfortable. My first management job at this dynamic young-spirited spa forced me to grow and learn, (and to develop my sense of humor) and for that I am grateful.

Goals:

I was thrilled to become a part of the Parker Hotel staff in June, 2010. I offer my dependable and enthusiastic best and hope to create a loyal and satisfied customer base.

I enjoy working throughout the entire scope of the spa industry. For the past 12 years I have had a great variety of work experience and seen many faces of the industry. I would like to eventually take on more responsibilities as I seem to thrive on challenge. Massage therapy brings me great satisfaction but I also love working in other venues and relish seeing a project through from beginning to end.
