Associate Professor -- Nova Southeastern University, Health Professions Division, College of Optometry; Fort Lauderdale, Florida. April 1993 - Present.

In addition to clinical duties, served as a member of the optometric faculty, lecturing to students on various topics including ocular pathology, systemic disease, and refractive disorders. Served as Instructor of Record for ‘Seminars in Laser and Surgical Ophthalmic Care’ course from May 2011 – present. Served as Instructor of Record for Clinical Medicine course from August 2001 – December 2006. Served as Adjunct Instructor of Record for Physical Diagnosis laboratory from August 2001 – November 2010. Helped to conduct additional laboratories and research, and aided the College as a member of the Continuing Education Committee (Chair '95-'96, '96-'97), the Strategic Planning Committee, the Student Affairs Committee, Clinical Affairs Committee, the Faculty Affairs Committee, the Senior Awards Committee, the Residency Advisory Committee, the Evaluation & Promotions Committee (Chair, ’06-’07) and the Faculty Council Executive Committee (Chair ’08-’09). Supervised and directed the clinical education of third- and fourth-year student physicians within several of the University clinics (designated "The Eye Institute" in 1998). Was responsible for all optometric care delivered by those clinicians under my charge; additionally supervised assigned residents in these services, with regard to patient care and clinical educational objectives. Provided consultation services for attending physicians in this service as well as Cornea/Contact Lens Service and Pediatric Service. Served as Director of Clerkships from January 1995 - July 1996. Served as Director of Primary Care Service Module 2 from May 1996 through August 1998. Served as Interim Chief of Primary Care, The Eye Institute at Fort Lauderdale from September 2000 through February 2001. Served as Coordinator of Urgent Care Service from July 2003 through December 2006.

Visiting Faculty -- Eye Surgery Associates; Hollywood / Pembroke Pines / Weston, Florida. August 2009 - February 2010.

Conducted a six-month sabbatical at this premier specialty ophthalmologic practice in South Florida. The specific goals of this sanctioned leave were to actively participate in surgical co-management; to develop, initiate and conduct clinical research as well as scholarly publications; and to observe, evaluate and enhance the relationship between optometry and ophthalmology within this particular practice and local eye care community.

Attending Physician / Team Coordinator -- Fox Medical Center; Miami, Florida. September - December, 1994.

Served on a part-time basis as an attending optometric physician in the eye clinic of this large community medical center in the heart of Miami's "Little Havana". Responsibilities included direct patient care, including any and all urgent and emergent ocular conditions, and precepting fourth year student clinicians in primary optometric care. As team coordinator, was also responsible for the actions of all other attending physicians, as well as day-to-day administration of the practice.

Conducted a full-spectrum, family eye care practice specializing in primary care optometry and contact lens practice.

RESIDENCY TRAINING

Resident in Hospital-Based Optometry -- John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital; Philadelphia, PA. July 1990 - July 1991.

Under the direction of George E. White, OD, FAAO… completed a one-year, ACOE-accredited residency at a primary eye care service within this hospital, delivering care to ambulatory patients as well as inpatients. Supervised the care provided by visiting optometric interns. Observed and assisted in ophthalmic surgery, and directed all pre- and post-operative patient care. Managed all ocular emergency room referrals on a 24-hour on-call basis (26 weeks). Performed minor surgical procedures (under ophthalmologic supervision) including punctal occlusion, corneal foreign body removal, chalazion injection, chalazion excision/curettage and Nd:YAG laser posterior capsulotomy.
