Greensheets for Blackberry: <mobile application>
Tested the Greensheets application for Blackberry which was developed for Senior Management. This application is a subset of the Greensheets application and was specifically developed for senior management reporting.
By logging into this application via their Blackberries the CEO, CFO and other senior management had the company PnL at their fingertips 24/7.
Greensheets:
The objective of the project is to replicate the existing Greensheets application providing enhanced report functionality, a more efficient business process control environment and a more stable and reliable server environment.
The new system is developed using the front end-reporting product CPM (Clarity Performance Manager), together with back end Hyperion Essbase OLAP database and Oracle database. The Green sheet covers a suite of applications that are primarily used for GMI Management Reporting at Merrill Lynch. These applications provide daily real time revenue estimates and P&L reporting to Senior Management, Finance Planning & Analysis, Business Finance Controllers and Regional Finance groups.
The main function of the Green sheet is to capture daily net revenues and expense estimates, calculate Global daily, regional, pretax and other after tax profit and provide end user reports.
Due to regular requests from the business users for new features and enhancements a new version of the Greensheets application is released to production most weeks. Given the size and complexity of the system even a small enhancement requires full system regression testing. This is extremely difficult to manage with such a high frequency of production releases.
ML&Co Tripod:
ML&Co Tripod is a main report for Senior Management and it consists three parts: Daily Estimate, Weekly Revenue and Quarterly Pacing. Data is coming from current GS CPM for GMI and from new Daily Input templates for GPC, GWM and Corporate. Left upper part of tripod will change name depending on selected data from Daily Estimate - Trader Flash to Daily Estimate (Greensheets).
GMI Management Reporting system is utilized by FP&A group and Senior Management to track performance of GMI Group on the daily basis. GMI Group already accounts for about 65% of Merrill Lynch’s total revenues and profit. To get total picture of company’s performance, it is necessary to include several other groups. This is what ML&Co Greensheets attempts to do.
When complete, the ML&Co Greensheets system will provide full picture of Merrill Lynch performance on daily basis for corporate-level analysts and Senior Management. It will do that by adding revenue estimates for all groups on top of existing GMI reports.
Risk Pl:
Also, tested the Risk Pl system which feeds into the Greensheets system
Risk P&L Website was built to:
• Capture revenue estimates by 5 digit account codes.
• Accommodate feeds from BUCS/Finman systems.
• Accommodate feeds from GELP/FFO systems.
• Have better controls over manual input.
• Increase granularity for E2A analysis.
• Support proper segregation of legal and management revenues.
• Support Legal Entity reporting.
Risk P&L Ultimately feed estimates to Greensheets Website
SPVR:
The purpose of SPV Data Repository project is to build the cross business stream SPV trade repository strategic infrastructure. Phase 1 scope is to ensure repository has feed interfaces to take data from all sourcing systems across business streams. In subsequent phases repository will provide reporting framework in subsequent phases, as well as workflow for processing SPV trades across middle office and finance.
The purpose of SPV Data Repository project is to build the cross business stream SPV trade repository strategic infrastructure to meet the federally regulated MRIA.
The delivery of the repository has been outlined below by 3 Phases:
Phase1
Ensure repository has feed interfaces to take data from all sourcing systems across business streams, provide middle office oversight functionality with workflow screens
Phase2
• Finance data elements
• Finance Workflow & screens
• Data migration of Finance historical data to Trade Repository
• Finance Workflow Enhancements
• Finance User Reporting
Daily Reserve:
GMI’s Financial Planning and Analysis group (FP&A) utilizes financial reporting applications including Greensheets General Management Reporting for financial forecasting and asset allocation.
The new Daily Reserve application will meet the needs for an automated Daily Reserve suite that will allow users to get a snapshot of their reserves at any given date.
When complete, the Daily Reserve system will benefit FP&A by providing a more robust, streamlined application that will be geared toward automating daily, monthly, quarterly, yearly and ad hoc reporting.
Pegasus / Monthly Balance Sheet:
Pegasus is a web-based Balance Sheet Management reporting system that fulfils the following functions:
• It distributes the cost of ML&Co and manages Treasury borrowings to the various business units.
• It calculates the Merrill Lynch Risk Equity (MLRE) assignments that form the foundation of the ROE measurements of each reporting unit.
• It provides a source of average balance sheet positions.
Pegasus is used to provide senior managers with a view of the Legal Balance Sheet from management point of view.
Pegasus receives a number of feeds (daily and monthly) from external systems. Charges are applied to the feeds based on the business rules and the charged data are aggregated. The system allows users to do JE postings and allocations. The balance (feed data and charged data) from the cost center gets distributed to different cost centers based on the distribution rule attached to each account / cost center. The consolidated data is provided to Oracle GL. Pegasus gives the users the ability to run various reports (P/L). The users are allowed to view/update the cost of carry percentages per account and cost center. The reports can be either downloaded in .PDF format or can be viewed in the Spreadsheet.
FDM – Funding & Distribution Module- Daily Balance Sheet:
The Balance Sheet Group and GMI Financial Planning and Analysis group (FP&A) utilizes financial reporting applications including the Inventory website and GMI Management Reporting (Greensheets) website for financial forecasting and asset allocation.
The new Balance Sheet application will meet the needs for an automated Balance Sheet suite of reporting that will allow senior management and finance controllers to have increased visibility, transparency and control.
The major benefits of creating a Balance Sheet reporting tool in the Greensheet platform are:
1) Single platform for daily P&L and Balance Sheet estimates.
2) Increased visibility and transparency for finance, business owners, and senior management to better manage the Balance Sheet.
3) Eliminates the need for multiple FPA teams to create their own offline daily Balance Sheet reporting via MS Access databases.
4) Improved administration for better control of user access, and ease of communication with the user community.
