About the opportunity
The School of Life and Environmental Sciences (SOLES) is seeking to appoint an Associate Lecturer in Biodiversity Conservation (Education-focused).
The School of Life and Environmental Sciences (SOLES) brings together researchers and educators in the life, earth and environmental sciences. We offer a broad range of undergraduate majors and degrees including biology, ecology and evolutionary biology, genetics and genomics, marine science, microbiology, plant science, soil science, animal and veterinary science, wildlife conservation and agriculture.
Working within the Ecology, Evolution, and Conservation Theme, the successful candidate will dedicate the majority of their contribution to education and will have opportunities to contribute to research, as well as the broader scholarly and teaching activities of the School, Faculty, and wider University community.
The candidate will support and coordinate undergraduate Units of Study broadly associated with biodiversity conservation and undertake class management, supervision and lecturing in these Units (plus additional units, where required). The position will also support the academic coordinators of other units within the Ecology, Evolutionary Biology and Conservation theme as required.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in biodiversity conservation and related areas of Biology and have demonstrated experience as a committed and effective educator. They will be highly organized and preferably have experience in the management of undergraduate courses including lecturing, tutorials, practical class management, assessment, WHS, evaluation and other associated tasks.
They will understand the principles and pedagogy of good assessment design, constructively aligning assessment tasks to learning outcomes. They will have a demonstrated ability to interact effectively with students, facilitating and guiding their learning in theory and practical sessions, and undertaking appropriate pastoral care. They will appreciate the increasing influence of AI into educational procedures and work effectively to incorporate technology into their teaching and approaches to assessment.

About you

a PhD in a related field
a demonstrated track record of excellence in student-centred undergraduate teaching of biodiversity conservation and in other biology/ecology related areas, including the delivery of lectures, tutorials, workshops, laboratory-based practical and field classes, and online access to teaching materials and learning activities using a learning management system (eg. CANVAS)
demonstrated success in designing, implementing and evaluating teaching and learning activities in biodiversity conservation, including assessment practices, to ensure students can achieve learning outcomes
a demonstrated capacity to stimulate and actively engage undergraduate students and enable a supportive, safe and inclusive learning environment
experience of relevant Work, Health and Safety requirements and management including laboratory and field work
demonstrated experience coordinating or supporting coordination of a unit of study and ensuring quality administration of teaching (e.g. timetabling) (desirable)
professional practice and development in teaching and learning, is working towards an Advance HE fellowship, Graduate Certificate in Higher Education or equivalent professional learning (desirable).
