Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer

Division: Engineering

Location: Luton

Reports to: Head of Product Development

About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Manufacturing Engineer to join a leading engineering and manufacturing organisation. This role is key to ensuring the efficiency, quality, and continuous improvement of all manufacturing processes. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and refining manufacturing methods to optimise workflow, minimise waste, and uphold the highest standards of quality and safety.

Working closely with design, manufacturing, and maintenance teams, you will play a pivotal role in driving process innovation and operational excellence, supporting the delivery of high-quality products and exceptional customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

Develop, implement, and optimise manufacturing processes.

Evaluate and improve manufacturing workflows to enhance efficiency and reduce waste.

Collaborate with design and production teams to ensure manufacturability and quality.

Monitor and maintain manufacturing equipment to ensure optimal performance.

Support the introduction of new products and technologies into production.

Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for manufacturing issues.

Prepare and maintain documentation including work instructions, process maps, and manuals.

Promote and enforce health and safety standards across all manufacturing activities.

Lead or participate in continuous improvement initiatives such as Lean and Six Sigma projects.

Performance Indicators

Cycle Time Reduction: Minimise production time while maintaining quality.

Downtime Reduction: Reduce unplanned machine stoppages and ensure quick recovery.

Equipment Utilisation: Maximise effective use of manufacturing machinery.

Secondary Objectives

Implement Lean practices, including 5S and Six Sigma methodologies.

Drive continuous process improvements for greater efficiency.

Identify and adopt innovative processes and technologies.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

Proven track record of implementing process change in a manufacturing environment.

Experience managing CAPEX projects with external suppliers.

Minimum 5 years’ experience in manufacturing or process engineering.

Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment, and quality control.

Proficient in CAD software (SolidWorks preferred).

Excellent communication, planning, and organisational skills.

Detail-oriented, proactive, and able to take ownership of tasks through completion.

Ability to collaborate effectively across R&D, quality, manufacturing, and maintenance teams.

Key Relationships

Cross-functional collaboration with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, and Maintenance teams.

Additional Information

This role does not have direct reports. Success will be measured by the ability to optimise processes, ensure product quality, control costs, reduce downtime, maintain safety standards, and foster innovation and collaboration across departments.
