Site Reliability Engineer

Piper Companies is seeking a Site Reliability Engineer to join a global leader in internet infrastructure and security services company located in Reston, VA.

The Site Reliability Engineer will be Focused on Production Operations, primarily involving DNS resolution and the deployment of automation tools.

This position will be on-site in Reston, VA two days per week!

Responsibilities of the Site Reliability Engineer include: * Deploy application code and execute monthly system patching.

* Perform advanced troubleshooting and resolve complex technical issues.

* Handle traditional system administration tasks (non-cloud-centric). * Manage and maintain a fleet of 1,000+ physical servers within a private cloud environment.

* Remotely administer bare-metal servers without on-site interaction.

* Operate workloads on private cloud infrastructure.

* Diagnose and remediate system issues promptly to ensure operational continuity.

Qualifications for the Site Reliability Engineer include: * 5+ years of experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL 8), including migration to RHEL 9/10.

* Strong expertise in Linux system engineering and DNS administration.

* Preferred background in traditional Linux environments rather than cloud-focused roles.

* Proficiency with configuration management tools, particularly Ansible.

* Basic scripting knowledge in Python (nice to have; minimal usage). * Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Nagios (training available). * Exceptional written and verbal communication skills - able to clearly and succinctly describe complex technical issues.

* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Compensation for the Site Reliability Engineer include: * Salary Range: $130,000 - $140,000 * Comprehensive Benefits: Cigna Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K, PTO, Sick Leave if required by law, and Holidays.
