Job Summary
You will lead the HIM and Coding department, managing workflows, staff performance, and quality assurance to support seamless healthcare delivery. Collaboration with clinical documentation improvement teams and other departments is essential to maintain accurate and timely patient records.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and supervise HIM/Coding staff, ensuring appropriate staffing levels and competency.
Oversee accurate ICD-10, HCPCS, and CPT coding, both concurrent and retrospective.
Coordinate medical record preparation, scanning, indexing, and quality reviews.
Collaborate with finance, revenue cycle, and quality teams to ensure complete electronic medical records.
Ensure compliance with privacy laws and regulations, partnering with compliance and security officers.
Participate in EMR implementation and maintenance, supporting data integrity through audits.
Maintain awareness of regulatory changes and best practices through ongoing education.
Develop and monitor departmental performance indicators and generate reports.
Lead and inspire staff, fostering a culture of trust, integrity, and continuous improvement.
Drive strategic planning and innovation within the department. Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum of three years of progressive experience in coding or HIM management. Licenses and Certifications
Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) required. Skills and Abilities
Comprehensive knowledge of health information management principles and medical terminology.
Familiarity with hospital and clinic operations.
Strong understanding of healthcare compliance and privacy laws.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and data analysis tools.
Excellent communication and leadership skills.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively.
