Senior Systems Engineer Microgrid
The Senior Systems Engineer Microgrid is a key technical contributor on Vertiv's Microgrid Systems Engineering team. This individual will take full ownership of complex battery energy storage and microgrid project designsfrom concept through commissioningwhile working closely with customers, internal teams, and vendors to deliver high-value, high-reliability energy solutions.
You will serve as a subject matter expert (SME) during sales engagements, provide engineering leadership throughout execution, and contribute to Vertiv's product development initiatives. This role is ideal for engineers who are deeply technical, thrive in collaborative environments, and are motivated by seeing their designs implemented in the real world.
This position will be based onsite at Vertiv's Delaware, OH location.
Responsibilities
Serve as technical subject matter expert of BESS and microgrid solutions to internal product development teams, sales teams, services teams, and external clients.
Assist in pre-sales activities to explain the benefits of BESS and microgrid solutions to potential customers and help create budgetary quotations for these solutions.
Design BESS and microgrid solutions for won bids and help coordinate the procurement of the solution equipment.
Acquire necessary firmware and software settings for sold solutions and ensure all equipment has its software properly adjusted during installation.
Guide system installation, setup, commissioning, operation, and maintenance as necessary.
Guide internal product development initiatives and research programs to introduce new solutions to the market.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or any other related field
8-10 years of experience in medium voltage power systems, low voltage power systems, and/or industrial control panel design and implementation
Deep understanding and experience with electrical systems/components such as industrial control panels, panel boards, transformers, circuit breakers, transfer switches, switchgear, power supplies, UPS, contactors, VFDs, SPD, etc.
Ability to create and interpret single line diagrams (SLDs) for power systems and control networks
Ability to interface and coordinate numerous components over standard network communications protocols
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret plans, specifications, control drawings, service bulletins, equipment specifications, etc.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from customers
Strong analytical and logical problem-solving skills
High attention to detail; excellent organization skills
Preferred: Previous experience with distributed energy resources such as BESS, solar arrays, diesel generators, natural gas generators, or any other related
Previous experience with power switching electronics, inverters, or any other related
Previous experience programming and controlling devices over Modbus, CAN bus, or other standard protocols
Previous experience with storage software platforms
