Summary

This announcement will be used to fill vacancies for various FMWR facilities on Fort Wainwright, Alaska. These facilities include City Center, Birch Hill Ski and Snowboard Area, Chena Bend Golf Course, Warrior Zone and more!

Incentives and Bonuses

Up to 25% recruitment and/or retention incentive may be authorized for positions offering at least a guarantee of 10 hours per week. Duties

Help

Performs a full range of simple cooking by preparing and cooking items that require little or no processing.

Mixes ingredients according to precisely written recipes.

Operates a variety of kitchen equipment using gas, electricity, steam or microwave heat sources.

Uses and cleans a variety of cooking utensils to measure, weigh, and process food items.

Ensures that foods are stored at the correct temperatures to prevent bacteria growth. Requirements

Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.

A one-year probationary period may be required.

Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.

Work involves continual standing and walking, frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and bending.

Must be able to lift or move objects up to 40 pounds unassisted, and occasionally lift or move objects weighing over 40 pounds with the assistance of other workers or lifting devices.

Work is performed in kitchen areas, which are well lighted but are often hot and noisy.

Employee is exposed to steam, fumes, odors from cooking, and to extreme temperature changes when entering walk-in refrigerators or freezing units.

Must stand on tile floor, subject to burns, cuts, and slipping on wet floors.

Satisfactory completion of a minimum of 4 hours initial food sanitation and safety training is required within 30 days of employment and a minimum of 4 hours refresher training annually.

Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks in accordance with AR 215-3, Chapter 2 to include a medical examination.

Incumbent may be required to complete a Tier 1 background investigation for a Common Access Card for physical access to federally-controlled facilities. Qualifications

Resumes must be two pages (or less). Resumes should clearly demonstrate the applicant's relevant experience, skills, knowledge and abilities as they pertain to this position.

A qualified candidate must possess the following:

1. Work experience in preparing foods and cooking simple foods and short orders in a cafeteria, restaurant, or mess.

2. Demonstration of the following work behavior is desirable:

a. Neatness and good grooming.

b. Dependability.

c. Ability to work under pressure.

3. Basic knowledge of food preparation methods and procedures.

4. Skill to cook a limited variety of prepared foods or short order foods.

5. Ability to read and understand written food service material, such as food labels, standardized recipes, and basic work instructions.

6. Skill in performing basic mathematical computations to multiply ingredients in a recipe or to determine how many servings a container will hold.

7. Knowledge of the various tables of weights and measures and ability to follow instructions to convert from standard to metric measurements.

8. Skill in operating, disassembling and cleaning basic food service equipment such as griddles, broilers, and food grinders.

9. Knowledge of basic sanitation, infection and spoilage control procedures.

This job falls under the Federal Wage Schedule (FWS) pay system. FWS employees earn overtime pay for working more than 8 hours in a day or more than 40 hours in a week whichever gives the employee more benefit. Regular full-time, regular part-time, and regularly scheduled flexible employees may receive Sunday premium pay for working on Sundays. Employees may also be eligible to receive extra pay if the majority of their scheduled hours falls after 3:00 PM.

Non-foreign overseas allowances, cost of living (COLA), and differentials will not be paid, contingent upon eligibility. Important Information Regarding Access to Certain Federal Facilities:
