Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as an Instructional Assistant in Special Education at Orange County High. This full-time position plays a vital role in supporting students with diverse learning needs in a positive and engaging educational environment. The ideal candidate will work closely with teachers and other staff to facilitate individualized instruction and promote the academic, social, and emotional development of students with disabilities.
Responsibilities
- Assist the classroom teacher in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs.
- Provide direct support to students during lessons, helping to reinforce concepts and skills.
- Monitor and document student progress, behavior, and engagement in classroom activities.
- Collaborate with teachers and specialists to adapt instructional materials and strategies to meet student needs.
- Facilitate small group and one-on-one instruction to support students in achieving their learning goals.
- Assist with classroom management and promote a positive learning environment.
- Support students during transitions, including lunch, recess, and other activities.
- Participate in team meetings and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in special education.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and adhere to school policies and procedures.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the classroom teacher or school administration.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; an associate degree or higher in education, special education, or a related field is preferred.
- Previous experience working with students with disabilities in an educational setting is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with students, teachers, and parents.
- Ability to demonstrate patience, empathy, and understanding when working with students with diverse needs.
- Proficiency in using technology and educational software to support learning.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing situations in a dynamic classroom environment.
- Certification as a paraprofessional or instructional assistant may be required, depending on state regulations.
- First Aid and CPR certification is a plus.
