Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of Security or designee, the Security Officer stands or walks about premises to prevent theft, violence, or infractions of rules and regulations of the institution as they apply to state laws and city ordinances.

Supervisory Role

Oral and written instructions are received from the Director of Security or designee.

Duties & Responsibilities

1. Check building security and protect college and individual property.

2. Provide information, prevent unauthorized entry and preserve the peace within college regulations, state laws and city ordinances.

3. Monitor traffic and parking lots.

4. Report traffic, safety and/or security infractions.

5. Participate in ID checks, investigations, bomb threat searches, fire drills and other similar actions.

6. Furnish escort services.

7. Assist police officers as necessary.

8. Complete routine and special reports as required.

9. Perform other related duties as required.

Additional Requirements

1. Maintain responsibilities in spite of inclement weather and other similar factors. Report to work on occasions of school closing due to such events, unless otherwise notified.

2. Must successfully complete First Aid training.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience (number of years), Knowledge and/or Abilities

1. High school diploma or equivalent.

2. Must have a clean police record including a successful fingerprint/records check.

3. Ability to complete a three month probationary period.

4. Ability to pass physical examination requirements as established by College Health Services.

5. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.

6. Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.

Education Requirements

High School Diploma

Licenses and Certifications (including e.g., CPR, first aid, driver's license, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

Experience (number of years), Knowledge and/or Abilities

1. Associate's degree in Criminal Justice or related field.

2. Relevant work experience demonstrating the ability to deal with students and/or the public in college or university campus.

3. Excellent interpersonal skills.
