Job Description
What's Health Networks & Government Programs at Wellmark? This team works with stakeholders to define long-term network payment strategy and to design complex provider network strategies for physician, hospital, and all other health care entities ensuring alignment with division and corporate objectives, focusing on total cost of care for our members. This role will actively partner with multiple areas across the division including Network Economics, Provider Relations, Payment Integrity, Government Network teams and Network Performance teams.
What projects might I support? Although subject to change, examples of projects you will be contributing to include:
Provide day to day experiences of collaboration and partnership with various health networks and government program teams; focus on networking, small scale deliverables, building interpersonal relationships, exposure to cross divisional elements of Wellmark organization
Ability to use problem solving skills in an independent but team supportive approach, competing research and self-driven deliverables utilizing strong communication skills (written, verbal, facilitation) and relying on collaborative results-oriented approach
Desire to strengthen business acumen in health care industry and self-driven team environment

This internship will start in May of 2026, working a hybrid schedule from our headquarters in Des Moines.
Qualifications
Current sophomore, junior, senior or graduate student studying Health Care Management, Public Health or related program
Prior experience in a business setting
Analytical problem-solving skills with the ability to gather and evaluate data
Excellent research, problem solving and presentation skills
Ability to measure and evaluate data
Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet strict deadlines
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively work with the business areas
Ability to see a task through to completion independently and as a team member
Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite, e.g. Excel and Word
