Are you passionate about protecting public health? The City of Hampton is seeking a dedicated Pest Control Technician to perform general pest control operations across the city. In this vital role, you'll manage arthropod and vertebrate pests, provide expert advice to residents, and apply herbicides to control vegetation-helping prevent erosion, reduce rodent harborage, and ensure effective stormwater drainage. You'll also support drainage maintenance operations, playing a key role in preserving the city's infrastructure and environmental health. Typical Tasks:
Conduct citywide mosquito control to support public health and recreation.
Perform general pest control using Integrated Pest Management (IPM) for pests like mosquitoes, flies, rats, snakes, and wasps.
Apply herbicides to control vegetation and reduce rodent harborage; assist with drainage maintenance, especially during rain/flood events. Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or successful completion of GED.
Experience in the pest control industry preferred.
Must possess a Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services license for Category # 60 (Registered Technician).
Must possess a Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services license for Category #8 (Public Health) or obtain one within 180 days of employment.
Must possess a valid driver's license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driver's record based on the City of Hampton's criteria.
This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City's current substance abuse policy.
Must successfully pass a background check prior to any offer of employment or promotion. Additional Requirements:
Must be able to make routine decisions independently.
