An Assistant County Attorney is responsible for assisting the County Attorney to handle all statutory duties in Minn. Stat. §388.051. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Represent all County Departments in legal matters that come to the attending of the County Attorney's Office, including reviewing files, drafting complaints and litigation documents, engage in negotiation, review and draft contracts, research and prepare memoranda, interview witnesses, and appear in court;
Prosecute felonies, gross misdemeanors, some misdemeanors, and juvenile delinquency matters;
Focus on criminal prosecution matters;
Respond to requests for legal advice from County agencies, departments, and law enforcement;
Represent the County in child and adult protection, child support, adoptions, conservatorships/guardianships, and civil commitments;
Represent the State and the County in all stages of appeal;
Provide training sessions for law enforcement and human service employees; and
Perform other duties of a similar nature or level. DUTYFREQUENCYBAND/GRADERepresents the County in litigation, including pleadings, motions, legal research, and court appearances; prepares cases for trial by analyzing investigator reports, interviewing persons involved, drafting legal documents, presenting evidence and arguments in court, and authority to negotiate settlements when determined appropriate. Represents the County and State in civil and criminal appeals in matters not resolved at trial court level.Daily

Minimum Qualifications
Juris Doctorate and a license to practice law in Minnesota, and
One (1) year of experience. Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience in a County Attorney's office, and
Prior experience in criminal prosecution.
