Position Title: Quiz Bowl Coach
Location: Richmond High School, Richmond Community Schools
Reports To: Dean of Students
Position Summary:
Richmond Community Schools is seeking a knowledgeable and enthusiastic Quiz Bowl Coach to lead our high school Quiz Bowl team. The coach will organize and supervise team practices, foster academic curiosity and teamwork, and guide students in local, regional, and state competitions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Recruit, organize, and mentor student participants for the Quiz Bowl team.
Plan and conduct regular practices to develop knowledge across a wide range of academic subjects.
Prepare students for competitions by emphasizing teamwork, strategy, and sportsmanship.
Coordinate competition schedules, transportation, and registration with the building office.
Maintain communication with students, parents, and administration regarding practices and events.
Ensure compliance with state, district, and league (Michigan High School Quiz Bowl Association or Blue Water Quiz Bowl League) rules and guidelines.
Promote academic excellence, inclusivity, and a positive team culture. Qualifications:
Previous experience in coaching, teaching, or leading academic teams preferred.
Strong general knowledge and enthusiasm for academic competition.
Ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, and parents.
Must meet district requirements for employment and pass background checks.
Must have documented evidence of organizational skills, knowledge, experience, preparation, and aptitudes in the above academic club commensurate with the level of the position.
Must have demonstrated ability to work with and motivate young people and adults and have no previous discipline or letters of concern.
Must have demonstrated ability to work with and motivate young people and adults.
Must be available during the time requirements of the position.
Certification in CPR and first aid preferred.
Stipend:
This is a stipend position in accordance with the district's compensation for co-curricular winter season assignments.
Season: Practices begin in November. Competition season runs from January to March.
