Summary:
Provides personal, equipment, and real property security in assigned area. Provides information, directions, and escort service as needed. May be assigned to a specific zone or geographical work area.
Examples of Duties
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Patrols assigned areas on foot or in a vehicle to ensure personal, building, and equipment security.
Examines doors, windows, and gates to determine that they are secure.
Informs and warns violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden articles.
Provides escort services for visitors, students, staff, faculty, and individuals responsible for transportation of monies to or from university depositories as required.
Provides public assistance, including lockout services and information.
Watches for and reports irregularities, such as fire hazards, leaking water pipes, and security doors left unlocked; sounds alarm in case of fire or presence of unauthorized persons.
Performs periodic checks of emergency call boxes and/or street lights to ensure proper functioning; reports malfunctions as required.
Prepares routine, standardized reports.
May be required to drive an institutional vehicle, providing safe and efficient transportation to University community and visitors.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. Typical Qualifications
Minimum Position Requirements (including years of experience, certifications, licenses, etc.):
High school diploma or GED; no previous work experience required.
Must be in good physical condition and have ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include sitting or standing for extended periods of time, sometimes in inclement weather conditions; ability to traverse campus grounds and climb stairs during building checks.
Must be able to work eight (8) hour shift.
Must be able to work flexible shift schedule/hours, including mandated overtime and continuation of regular tour of duty. Supplemental Information

Skill in utilizing building security and lock systems and procedures. Conditions of Employment:
Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
A valid driver's license will be required if a university motor vehicle is operated on the job.
Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
