SCCMHA Internship Vacancy

Internship Summary

Saginaw County Community Mental Health Authority (SCCMHA) is currently accepting applications for students seeking clinical internship placements. SCCMHA is a comprehensive and inclusive agency that provides services to youth, families, and adults in Saginaw County living with developmental and intellectual disabilities, serious emotional disturbances, behavioral challenges, mental illness, and substance use disorders.

Internship placements are assigned based on availability across various departments within the organization.

This internship program is designed to provide students with practical experience and hands-on training to satisfy academic fieldwork requirements and professional development goals.

INCIDENTAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

1. Performs various administrative functions such as preparing reports and appearing in court.

2. Addresses community groups and organizations.

3. May serve as an officer or member of various mental health related community agencies which promote general goals of SCCMHA.

4. Attends meetings, seminars, workshops, and community events related to the public mental health mission and to sustain professional competency.

5. Reacts productively to change and handles other essential tasks as assigned.

6. Fulfill the number of hours required by the College/University.

Education

Must be an active college student in a BSW or MSW or other program requiring a field placement. SCCMHA and the University must have an affiliation agreement in order for SCCMHA to accept an internship.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Excellent interpersonal skills, oral and written skills. Must be able to maintain professional boundaries with agency staff and consumers, demonstrate tact and diplomacy when interacting with consumers and respect and maintain confidentiality. Must have knowledge of and adherence to core values when interacting with agency personnel, network providers and other stakeholders. Must have basic computer skills for data entry and electronic communications.

Physical/Mental Requirements:

1. Hearing acuity to converse in person and on telephone.

2. Visual Acuity to observe consumer behaviors read and proofread documents and use CRT.

3. Ability to walk, stand or sit for extended periods of time.

4. Manual dexterity to write and to operate standard office equipment (PC, Keyboard, Copy Machine, Fax Machine, etc.)

5. Ability to lift and carry files and supplies at least 20 pounds.

6. Strong interpersonal skills to interact with leadership, employees, consumers and the general public.

7. Analytical skills necessary to conduct research, analyze, and interpret complex data and identify and solve problems by proposing courses of action.

8. Ability to plan short and long range and to manage and schedule time.

9. Ability to handle stress in meeting deadlines and dealing with large numbers of employees and/or consumers.
