Serve as an emergency response medical professional administering immediate medical care to victims of accidents, violence, and sudden illnesses such as cardiac arrests or strokes. Provide critical pre-hospital and intra-hospital advanced life support from first contact until patient transfer to the accepting medical facility.
Job Duties
Represent the ambulance service at public functions, expositions, and events while providing ambulance stand-by services as needed.
Thoroughly document patient assessments and treatments using patient care charting software.
Provide medical, traumatic, and therapeutic services to patients in psychiatric, medical, and traumatic crises.
Collaborate as a member of a two-person ambulance crew responding to emergency and non-emergency calls.
Utilize advanced life support equipment, such as bag valve mask resuscitators, external defibrillators, and electrocardiograms.
Assess injuries and illnesses to determine and execute priority medical procedures, including stabilization and safe transportation of victims.
Follow dispatcher instructions to safely drive and operate emergency vehicles to specified locations.
Administer medications according to physician directives, utilizing injection, intravenous procedures, or oral methods.
Communicate with medical personnel at emergency treatment facilities for instructions regarding patient care.
Clean and decontaminate the ambulance post-transport for any patients with infectious diseases and report incidents to relevant authorities. Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED
Ability to assess the needs of both acute and chronically ill patients and their families.
Proficiency in documenting and communicating vital information using computer or paper documentation tools.
Demonstrate competencies in age-specific care for a range of patients including neonates, adolescents, and geriatrics.
Knowledge of infection control procedures and safety protocols.
Capable of utilizing advanced knowledge and training to create and execute effective care plans.
Required certifications: ACLS, PALS, Basic Life Support, EMSVO Certification, and PA EMT-P Paramedic.
Valid Driver’s License in Pennsylvania. Preferred Qualifications
Associate's Degree
2 years of experience in advanced life support services
1 year of pre-hospital paramedic experience.
NREMT-Paramedic Certification or Pre-Hospital RN certification. Physical Demands
Must be able to lift over 50 lbs, push/pull up to 140 lbs, and carry 80 lbs over short distances. Frequent standing/walking, squatting, kneeling, crawling, climbing, and overhead reaching is required.
