About the Job
The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at the University of Minnesota Medical School seeks a full-time faculty member with clinical responsibilities in cytogenetics. Academic rank, compensation and appointment type will be based on qualifications and experience. Candidates must have demonstrated ability in teaching and scholarly productivity. The position is open to MDs or PhDs with training in Cytogenetics or Laboratory Genetics and Genomics. Requirements include ABMGG Board certification or eligibility in Clinical Cytogenetics or in Laboratory Genetics and Genomics. Experience with laboratory direction in a large, complex laboratory is preferred; experience in developing and implementing clinical assays is strongly preferred.
The Cytogenetics Laboratory has been an early adopter and innovator of genomic assays. The Cytogenetics Laboratory is a full-service laboratory cytogenomic assays for prenatal and postnatal constitutional referrals, and for detection and characterization of acquired abnormalities in hematologic and solid tumors. The laboratory has a national reputation in pediatric malignancies and bone marrow failure syndromes and, together with the Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory, supports a very active hematopoietic stem cell transplantation program. This role will be part of a collaborative team of specialists that include cytogeneticists, molecular pathologists and highly specialized and experienced laboratory staff.
This role participates in medical student, resident and fellow education, and is encouraged to pursue research that leads to a national/international reputation of excellence. Clinical responsibilities, on-call duties and conferences are shared with other members of the cytogenetics faculty.
Academic time will be used to pursue scholarly work in the candidate's area of specialty/research expertise with a goal of developing collaborative or independent externally funded research. Preferred candidates will be active in their national organizations and have experience in fostering an academic environment for medical students, residents, fellows and faculty.

Pay and Benefits
Pay Range: This role is dually employed by the University of Minnesota and University of Minnesota Physicians. Salary at the University of Minnesota is dependent upon academic effort of the person hired, and begins at $55,000. Clinical salary, aligned with clinical effort, is provided through University of Minnesota Physicians. Total salary is competitive with market and based on AAMC salary benchmarks.
