Job Summary

The Clinical Instructor and Coordinator of Clinical Experiences is responsible for ensuring that the secondary English Teacher Education program's commitment to socially just English Language Arts instruction is modeled and supported in all clinical experiences. This includes providing instruction within the English Education sequence, which may include teaching introductory English Education and methods coursework, supervising student teachers, and co-facilitating the student teaching seminar. The Coordinator is also responsible for seeking, building, and sustaining clinical relationships, including visiting field sites; creating and maintaining clinical program databases; coordinating and supporting clinical mentors and student teaching supervisors/field instructors, including supporting ongoing professional learning for clinical mentors and supervisors/field instructors; liaising and communicating regularly with program faculty and staff about aligning clinical work with course requirements, licensure requirements, and the program's mission and vision; working with College of Education placement personnel; monitoring candidates' performance in clinical experiences, including collecting and synthesizing program data from clinical experiences; and intervening when necessary to proactively and strategically address logistical, interpersonal, dispositional, or program needs or concerns in order to ensure candidates' ability to demonstrate proficiency and maintain positive working relationships with school-based partners. The Coordinator will work closely with and under the direction of the Director of English Education and must also be able to work effectively with students, professionals in the field, and other staff and faculty in the program.

Additional Information

This is a non-continuous position. The initial appointment will be from August 1, 2025, through May 31st, 2026. Appointment renewal for the following year will be based on available funding and performance.

Salary Rate / Pay Rate

$45,000 - $50,160

Required Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree in English education or related field.

2. Current secondary English Language Arts teaching license.

3. Experience in diverse school settings.

4. Experience in enacting and reflecting on one's own and others' socially just English language arts instruction.

5. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

6. Reflective and inquiry driven disposition.

7. Anticipate and identify on one's own and with others proactive opportunities to strengthen clinical instruction as well as systems of placement, communication, and reporting that benefit student experiences and program assessment.

8. Experience with MS Word and Excel.

9. Familiarity with online course management systems.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Master's degree in English Education, or related field.

2. Three or more years' experience teaching middle or high school English.

3. At least two years of experience preparing teacher candidates in English, either as a secondary methods instructor, university supervisor, and/or cooperating teacher.

4. Evidence of ongoing professional learning in field of English language arts, such as attending or presenting at professional conferences.

Work Hours

Generally Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm with occasional weekend and evening hours as business needs dictate.
