Summary

As a Child Life Specialist, you will plan, develop, and provide essential Child Life programming to support the psychological, emotional, and developmental needs of pediatric patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities:

Coordinate and supervise special events in inpatient pediatric areas.

Collaborate with marketing and public affairs for media engagements.

Develop strategies to reduce children’s anxiety related to healthcare experiences.

Prepare patients and families for procedures through therapeutic play activities.

Evaluate children’s developmental stages and emotional needs.

Identify coping strategies for patients and families facing hospitalization and illness.

Implement individualized services catering to each child’s unique needs.

Consult with healthcare staff on developmental and behavioral issues affecting care.

Maintain records that demonstrate Child Life services provided to patients.

Manage the budget and resources for the Child Life Department.

Offer consultations for children visiting hospitalized patients to support their experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Child Life or a related field.

At least one year of experience as a Child Life Specialist in a healthcare setting with children.

Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) certification required upon hire.

Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association required upon hire.

Physical Demands:

This role requires lifting and carrying 40-50 lbs, frequent standing and walking, and may involve patient transport for distances of 8-10 miles per shift. You may also need to perform actions including bending, kneeling, squatting, and CPR as part of patient care.
