Position Summary
This Assistant Project Manager role is an outstanding opportunity for individuals ready to launch or advance a career in project management. Whether you're a recent graduate in engineering, construction management, project management, or business-or an experienced construction professional with hands-on field experience-this position provides a clear pathway to grow into an independent project leader.
You'll work directly alongside experienced Project Managers on projects ranging from small to highly complex scopes. Your work will directly support project success as you develop skills in scheduling, field operations, procurement, estimating, change management, safety planning, and financial oversight. As you gain experience and demonstrate capability, you'll gradually assume responsibility for leading your own small to intermediate projects.

What You'll Do
• Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, working closely with the lead Project Manager.
• Review RFPs and contribute to bidding strategy, pricing, and proposal development.
• Support estimates and bids, including take-offs and subcontractor/material pricing.
• Prepare detailed project initiation plans, including schedules, cost projections, resource needs, and safety documentation.
• Conduct safety audits and ensure compliance with all safety standards and pre-task planning.
• Deliver clear direction and training to crews and field supervisors.
• Assist with subcontractor coordination to ensure alignment on scope, schedule, and safety expectations.
• Maintain proactive communication with job sites to identify potential issues with scope, materials, Client, or scheduling.
• Monitor project costs and identify risks early to help maintain budget and schedule integrity.
• Support billing processes, cash flow planning, and change order management.
• Develop proficiency in contract administration, project documentation, and risk mitigation.
• Communicate project updates clearly to internal and external stakeholders.
• Assist with monthly WIP reporting and revenue-to-expense reconciliation.
• Demonstrate professionalism, strong ethics, and a commitment to a positive team culture.
What You Bring
If you have a Bachelor's degree:
• Degree in engineering, construction management, business, project management, or related discipline
• Internship experience in construction or utilities preferred
If you do not have a Bachelor's degree:
• Eight years of hands-on construction experience plus three years supervising field operations
• Utility experience preferred
• Formal apprenticeship experience valued
Additional Skills:
• Excellent verbal and written communication
• Demonstrated leadership or team involvement (academic projects, field work, community involvement, crew leadership, etc.)
• Strong relationship-building skills
• Foundational knowledge of industry principles and best practices
• Outstanding organizational and problem-solving abilities
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
• A strong work ethic and desire to grow into project leadership
Travel Requirements
This role requires travel, including occasional overnight stays depending on project needs.
