Job Summary: Coordinate nursing care during scheduled shifts with a focus on patient and family-centered care in an environment that exemplifies best practices and exceptional customer service. This role fosters relationship-based care and upholds professional nursing standards. Nursing care guidelines align with the ANA Code of Ethics, regional Nurse Practice Acts, the Nursing Process, and regulatory agency standards.

Essential Responsibilities:

Manage personnel, nursing service activities, and coordination during assigned shifts to ensure safe, efficient, and therapeutic patient care.

Collaborate effectively with other shifts to maintain continuity of care and assume charge responsibilities in the absence of unit leadership.

Oversee nursing staffing functions, including arranging and approving staffing levels, managing overtime, and addressing critical staffing vacancies while considering budgetary constraints.

Coordinate resource distribution, special orders, and document all activities and decisions throughout the shift.

Ensure compliance with emergency preparedness, infection control, hazardous waste management, OSHA, HIPAA, and other federal/state regulations.

Utilize bed management systems to communicate patient flow status and coordinate emergency surgeries as needed.

Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives, nursing research, and event documentation.

Conduct patient satisfaction rounds twice per shift, addressing concerns such as call light response, privacy, and noise levels.

Coordinate patient placement based on diagnosis, age, and gender, focusing on patient experience and wait times.

Provide education to patients, families, and caregivers while maintaining privacy and dignity.

Respond to and assist with all emergency codes and rapid response calls according to established protocols.

Communicate significant patient condition changes to physicians and clarify orders as necessary.

Document care, IV therapy tasks, and unusual occurrences in compliance with guidelines.

Promote patient safety through education and use of safety tools and techniques.

Engage in professional growth by practicing conflict resolution, mentoring colleagues, participating in leadership councils, continuing education, and peer review.

Demonstrate excellent customer service, ethical behavior, and commitment to inclusion and diversity.

Education and Experience Required:

Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing is required.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred or required within five years of hire; enrollment in an accelerated MSN program is acceptable.

Minimum of 2-5 years hospital experience, including leadership roles.

Area-specific certifications such as ACLS, BLS, and PALS may be required upon hire and must be maintained.

Proficiency with computer skills is necessary.

Licensure/Certifications: Current active Registered Nurse licensure by the appropriate state board is required.

Work Shift: 4th Shift

Scheduled Weekly Hours: Part-time position in a regional healthcare setting within the Midwest United States.
