Under the general supervision of the Building Principal(s) and the Director of Special Education, the Special Education Aide assists the Classroom/Special Education Teacher in supporting the delivery of education/special education programs to students. Under the direction of the Special Education/Classroom Teacher and the Certified Nurse, the Special Education Aide's primary responsibility is to assist students to develop self-sufficiency, including, but not limited to, medical and mobility, communication, interpersonal and behavioral skills.
The Special Education Aide under the direction of the Certified Nurse will administer medically prescribed procedures, which are the responsibility of the public school system.
Additionally, all aides will be required to assist with student supervision in gathering areas such as the cafeteria, playground, and hallways.
Required Qualifications:
Minimum of High School or GED diploma or recognized equivalent
Credential of competency required for all special education paraprofessionals. Competency must be demonstrated and documented by one of the following:
Completion of an Associate's Degree or higher ; or
Completion of two years of study at an institution of higher education (48 credits); or
Completion of the Credential of Competency for Special Education Paraeducators PA School Code Chapter 14.105 currently requires 20 hours of staff development each school year
Current CPR/First Aid Certification
Competent grammar skills and computer literacy
Willingness to be trained in areas pertinent to individual student needs
Strong desire to assist students with academic, social and physical needs
Position Information:
7.0 hours per day, 5 days per week, 183 days per year

Required Documents:
Child Abuse, PA State Criminal History and PDE FBI Clearances as required by the Child Protective Services Law and PA School Code
Current Act 168 Verification required at time of interview.
Compensation:
$15.73 per hour, or at current rate, in accordance with the FRESP Collective Bargaining Agreement.
