Position Title: Academic Coach

Reports To: Director of Curriculum (Middle, Secondary, or Elementary based on position's grade level responsibilities); Principal

Primary Function:

Provides support of appropriate instruction designed to improve instructional practices and student achievement; provides faculty leadership and support to administration for the school curriculum and instructional process.

Requirements:

Educational Level: Master's Degree.

Certification/Licensing: Valid GA Teacher's Certificate, Reading Specialist/Endorsement or Math Certification preferred.

Experience: Minimum of 3 years experience teaching Mathematics or Reading/Language Arts.

Proficiency Skills: Written and oral communication skills, student management, supervisory and leadership skills. Ability to employ a variety of instructional strategies that connect the curriculum to the learners. Ability to deal with multiple tasks, computer competence, organizational and interpersonal skills.

Personal Skills: Pleasant personality, cooperative attitude, physical skills and stamina to perform essential duties.

GENERAL

1. Demonstrates appropriate verbal and written communication skills.

6. Utilizes state and system-wide test results and local school grade profiles for developing and improving the instructional program for all students assigned to the teacher.

9. Demonstrates a variety of teaching strategies and resources.

10. Supports teachers in assessing and encouraging student progress by promoting engagement, monitoring student progress, responding to adequate and inadequate performances and showing support of students in an appropriate manner.

11. Models appropriate management of the learning environment by demonstrating appropriate rituals and routines.

12. Supports long-term substitutes by providing information and materials.

13. Models effective research-based instructional strategies for teachers.

14. Provides instructional support and resources to the classroom teacher through mentoring and observation.

42. Supplements the efforts of the principal and assistant principal in classroom visitation and instructional leadership.

43. Follows up and supports administrative actions for improving teacher performance.

44. Shares with the principal problems of general administration of the school curriculum.

45. Attends local school meetings, county meetings for coordinating the system's instructional program, and other meetings as directed.

46. Assists the textbook selection committee by involving all teaches in the examination and evaluation of textbooks, teaching aids and materials.
