Description

The Standardized Patient (SP) Educator plays a critical role in supporting experiential learning and assessment within the Interprofessional Simulation and Innovation Center (ISIC). Reporting directly to the Senior Director of the ISIC, this position is responsible for the full lifecycle of standardized patient involvement, including spearheading recruitment efforts, overseeing onboarding, and delivering continuous, ongoing training to ensure standardized patients and human models are well-prepared to participate in simulation activities across UNE's health professions education.

Responsibilities

Develops, implements, and evaluates training programs for Standardized Patients and Human Models to ensure accurate and consistent case portrayal.

Prepares SPs to provide structured feedback and enhance student and trainee learning experiences.

Collaborates with subject matter experts, faculty, and simulation program stakeholders to align training with realistic, clinically relevant healthcare scenarios.

Collaborate and coordinates with program faculty to set up SP training sessions prior to simulation activities.

Provides faculty/educator support, including case design collaboration, session preparation, and integration of SP methodology into teaching and assessment.

Oversees quality assurance processes to evaluate SP performance, ensure consistency, and maintain the integrity of simulation-based assessments.

Recruits, onboards, and maintains a diverse and well-prepared pool of SPs to support high-quality, simulation-based education.

Ensures simulation activities reflect real-world healthcare encounters and promote interprofessional learning outcomes.

Provides accurate records of hours worked to the departmental fiscal representative to ensure prompt payment to SPs.

Participates in preparation of programmatic reports, internal and external funding proposals (grants, RFPs, special initiatives), and scholarly materials.

Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications

Required

Bachelor's degree or a minimum of 5 years work experience in health care, simulation, corporate training, theatre or related field, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.

Experience in recruitment, onboarding, and training in educational or healthcare settings.

Proven ability to communicate effectively with learners, standardized patients, faculty, and staff.

Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, with the ability to foster professional growth through constructive feedback.

Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, details, and deadlines.

Proficiency with word-processing, spreadsheets, and database management tools (e.g., MS Access, Excel).

Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team in a dynamic environment.

Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Familarity with technologies and software to assist in educational delivery to SPs and stakeholders Desirable

Master's degree in education, health professions, or related field.

Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) or Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS).

Knowledge of INACSL Standards of Best Practice for Simulation.

Experience as a standardized patient or in the coordination of standardized patient programs.

Familiarity with physical exam skills, medical interviewing, and healthcare simulation modalities.

Prior experience working within an academic environment.

Training or certification in standardized patient methodology, healthcare simulation, or debriefing.

Experience mentoring or supervising staff or volunteers.
