Full-Time, 230 days.
START DATE:

SUMMARY:
The Principal develops a plan to establish a positive, safe environment that is conducive to best meeting the needs of all students, staff and parents. This includes such responsibilities as: leading, directing, counseling, and supervising a variety of personnel and programs; creating effective parent, teacher, and child communications; supporting, encouraging, mentoring, and evaluating staff; fostering teamwork between teachers and among staff and parents; and managing budget items and appropriate staffing requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership:
Lead the school in achieving its educational objectives, ensuring alignment with district goals, state standards, and local priorities.
Establish a vision for academic excellence and foster a culture of high expectations, inclusivity, and continuous improvement.
Maintain a positive, respectful, and supportive school climate where all students and staff are valued and empowered.
Oversee the design and implementation of the school's curriculum, ensuring it is challenging, relevant, and aligned with state standards.
Monitor the progress of student achievement through data analysis and provide leadership in the development of intervention programs for students who need additional support.
Ensure that the school operates in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, including those related to special education, Title IX, and other legal and regulatory frameworks.
Enforce school policies and procedures while promoting fairness, equity, and transparency in decision making.
Manage the daily operations of the school, including scheduling, facility management, and ensuring adherence to district policies and procedures.
Develop and oversee the school budget, allocating resources effectively to support instructional needs, extracurricular activities, and school maintenance.
Is a member of the GKB Safety Committee. Assists the Safety Director in the management of the GKB Crisis Plan, coordination and implementation of safety drills. Student Achievement:
Ensure the development and implementation of comprehensive student support programs that address academic, behavioral, social, and emotional needs.
Maintain effective communication with students, parents, and guardians regarding student progress, behavior, and school policies.
Provide teachers with ongoing access to student learning data and ensure that evidence is used to refine teaching practices.
Oversee the school's discipline policy and manage student behavior in a way that promotes a positive and safe learning environment. Staff:
Hire, evaluate, and support school faculty and staff, ensuring they meet high professional standards and have access to ongoing training and development.
Conduct regular classroom observations and provide constructive feedback to teachers to enhance teaching effectiveness.
Encourage and foster collaboration among staff to support student learning and professional growth.
Coordinate professional development opportunities for teachers and staff to enhance instructional practices.
Supports substitute teachers in carrying out their duties.
Update Staff Handbook as necessary and share expectations/changes. Communication:
Act as the primary liaison between the school and its community stakeholders, including parents, local businesses, government officials, and higher education institutions.
Foster strong, positive relationships with students, parents, faculty, and the community to build school pride and support for the school's mission.
Set annual goals, track key performance indicators, and report progress to the Superintendent and School Board.
Ensure open communication through regular meetings, newsletters, and social media updates about school events, achievements, and important announcements.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned by Administration.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
All staff and students within the High School.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Master's Degree in Education, Indiana Administrative license, and valid Indiana driver's license. Minimum of five (5) years successful administrative experience as well as head Principal experience preferred.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Working knowledge of multiple technology resources for education. Exceptional organizational skills. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all laws, rules, and regulations per district requirements, Board policies, and the State of Indiana. Experience with conflict resolution and mediation. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to speak effectively and present information in one-on-one and small groups of customers, employees, and students.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk and use fingers, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and peripheral vision.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The employee is continuously required to meet deadlines with time constraints, interact with the public and other staff.
